Jordan Paulding posted thisThe shoe is on the other foot now... Never has there been a time like now where job seekers hold as much bargaining power during their search. Right now, job seekers have the pick of the litter with job opportunities. Thousands of onsite "region locked" roles you never had access to before are available remotely. No longer are you stuck with just what is available in your area. Companies are adapting... Shorter hiring processes, more remote flexibility, more competitive pay rates, all this to stay competitive and attract talent. You need to adapt as well. Stop looking for positions just in your geographic area, the world is your oyster now. Take advantage of it.

Jordan Paulding posted thisInterviewing isn't just about telling your interviewer what you've done. You've got to sell them your experience. Next time you get the chance, try implementing the "Career Story" strategy. Instead of walking them through what you do day-to-day, frame your answer from the point of view of a project you completed. What was the project, how did you contribute to the project, what were some roadblocks you had to overcome, and what was the outcome. This shows the interviewer what you are capable of, gives them insight into how you tackle adversity, shows knowledge of the process, and how your contributions benefit the organization.

Jordan Paulding posted thisRecently I've been prepping candidates for interviews who have never heard of "The Elevator Pitch". So what is an Elevator Pitch anyway, and why is it so important for an interview? The idea is, if you are in an elevator with your interviewer, "how would you best summarize your experience before the doors open and you lose their attention?" People can only absorb a certain amount of information before they get overwhelmed and start losing their attention. If you find yourself telling a long winded story about your experience, that is exactly what is going to happen. The goal is to stick to key highlights of your professional experience. Keep it short, but informative. Did you accomplish something of merit at your previous employers? What have you done that is identical or similar to the role you are interviewing for? How is your experience the solution they need? Being able to confidently present your Elevator Pitch shows that you are prepared, confident, and knowledgeable. The bonus is, if you are engaging enough, you are going to grab their attention and stand out from the crowd!

I know what types of tools you use (I couldn't possibly use them though). Also, I'm colorblind so this job just was never meant for me. If you can do better than me, let me know.
