Jonah Raskas liked thisJonah Raskas liked thisThe last 19 months of my life have been anything but ordinary. It started with my son AY's bar mitzvah. A week later, my younger brother Jonathan became suddenly and unexpectedly ill. Around the same time, I was just a few months into my new role as CEO of Algemeiner, preparing for my first gala. During these 19 months, I made six trips to Israel. The last one ended just over a week ago with this photo. On the way to the airport, my nephew asked if we should stop at his father's grave one last time. As I stood there saying goodbye to my brother, he quietly snapped this picture. Just across the road is my maternal grandfather's grave. Years ago, when my grandmother became ill, my mother asked him, "Daddy, you're a rabbi. You've spent your whole life helping people through grief. Why are you so out of sorts?" His answer was simple: "That was them. This is me." I've thought about those words many times over the years. I understand them now in a way I never could before. I'm still in shloshim — the traditional 30-day Jewish mourning period after the loss of an immediate family member. I'm still trying to find my footing — with my family, with work, with this new reality. Some days are pretty good. Some aren't. Sometimes the sadness comes out of nowhere. We were singing at the end of Shabbos this past week — songs we sang with my brother on his last Shabbos at home before he died — and I couldn't hold back the tears. Other times, I'm in the middle of a meeting or driving in the car, and my mind suddenly goes somewhere else. I realize now how invisible mourning can be. Many people don't even know I'm in mourning. Some don't know what to say. Others have simply shown up. Every message, every call, every hug, every story about my brother has brought a measure of comfort. What I'm experiencing reinforces that we don't know what someone else is carrying. A lot of kindness & grace go a long way. My grandfather was right. "That was them. This is me."

It always rubbed me the wrong way. What a dumb comment. Anything worth doing is hard. Building enterprise software is hard. Selling into Fortune 500s is hard. Consumer is hard. Fundraising is hard. Hiring is hard. Sometimes getting out of bed is hard! The only question is whether you're solving a problem that actually matters. Cool seeing so many Feld Ventures companies hitting major milestones: • Replit continuing to define AI coding. Massive enterprise growth, Visa investment. 50M+ users building on the platform, from students to Fortune 500 employees • Shield AI now valued at $12.7B after landing major U.S. Air Force programs. • Firestorm Labs raised an $82M Series B to deploy containerized drone factories at the edge, backed by Lockheed Martin, In-Q-Tel, NEA and others. Massive contracts, traction and also a sweetheart of a CEO in Dan Magy 🏴☠️. • Autolane partnering with HEVO to bring automated wireless charging to autonomous vehicle fleets, making autonomous commerce even more autonomous. Also closed a massive $7.4M seed round led by Hyperplane, Jason Calacanis, and Tim Draper. Seeing Ben Seidl's transformation has been extraordinary. • Stretch AI taking off, after a hot pre-seed with over 2M TikTok views and 10k+ downloads. Lucky to have amazing co investors like Tim Ferriss, Steven Grin and more. When I started this journey, my dream was to build something similar to what Lior Susan built with Eclipse. In my opinion, he's one of the GOATs of deep tech investing. Long before it was trendy, he was backing founders building real-world technology that moves atoms, not just pixels. We're still incredibly early. The next decade won't just create software unicorns. It'll create the next generation of robotics, defense, manufacturing, autonomy and infrastructure giants. This is just the beginning.

Jonah Raskas liked thisJonah Raskas liked thisThe most guaranteed way that I know to go from $100 to $1000, then $10,000 is to go to yard sales, flea markets, buy shit for $1 or $2, and sell them on Ebay for $20. It's real. You can do it t-shirts, stuffed animals, video games, old stuff that you have in your own house.. all sorts of random things. Now, every time I put out this content people are like: "But Gary, what about the fees?" - You pay for the fees. "What about the gas?" - you pay for the gas. And you'll be still have extra $200 for profit. The thing is.. people who complain and don't want to do shit, they spend $200 on a weekend buying $34 margaritas instead of waking up at 7am and going to make $300.

Yet another example of an OuterSignal brand leveraging the data in a new, incredibly intelligent way. Momentous is a high-quality supplements brand, traditionally DTC. They’ve also been making a big push to grow their wholesale and affiliate business lines. So they used OuterSignal to surface 20,000 existing customers who had purchased DTC, but also happened to be: - Senior-level stakeholders at fitness retailers - Executives at national gym brands - Owners of physical therapy clinics - A jazzercise instructor (my personal favorite) These are NOT lookalikes. They are bonafide existing customers previously hidden in the order data. Over 20,000 of them. All already believers in the product who happen to be decision makers as potential affiliates / wholesalers. OuterSignal surfaced them by identifying customers who actively work in: fitness, wellness, physical therapy, yoga studios, and generally health-focused businesses. So now Momentous is running targeted BD campaigns to people who already buy from them and also happen to be highly relevant to those business lines. Incredibly smart by their very talented team. Excited to see what partnerships come from this.

I am surrounded by individuals who support one another, strive for quality work, and continually pursue innovative ways to deliver real value for our clients. I want to say thank you to Jim Russell and Tanvi Patel for the opportunity four years ago and for their ongoing mentorship. It was literally thirty three years ago today I left my position as a fourth year attorney and began a journey that culminates today with this announcement. At the end of this month, I will be leaving full time employ at JND, the company that Jennifer Keough, Neil Zola and I created from scratch over 10 years ago. The success of JND would not have been possible without the dedication, talent and commitment of our employees, the trust of our clients and the support of our partners and friends. Thank you to you all. While leaving a company you founded is never easy, I do so with tremendous confidence in JND’s future. The organization is strong, the management team under Jennifer’s leadership is outstanding, and I know the company will continue to innovate and thrive in the years ahead. To be clear, I am not retiring. For now, I would say that I am hitting the pause button. What comes next for me professionally will be left for another day but I am truly excited about beginning my next chapter. In the near term I intend to spend more time with the people who matter the most…..my wife, children and grandchildren. Thank you again to everyone who made this thirty three year journey so special.

Everyone talks about the Bay Area and NYC like they’re the only place innovation happens. Meanwhile, Virginia startups just raised a record $2.9B ‼️ in VC in 2025. That should make a few people sit up. The bigger takeaway is not just the number. It’s what the number signals: Virginia is building a startup ecosystem with real depth across defense tech, cyber, AI, advanced air mobility, energy, and life sciences. And when a region compounds sector strength with talent, founder momentum, and returning capital, it stops being “up-and-coming” and starts becoming structurally important. Over the last 3 years, Virginia companies have pulled in more than $7B in venture investment. That is not luck. That is ecosystem formation. 👨🏻💻Founders should pay attention to where serious companies can be built. 💰Investors should pay attention to where serious markets are being formed. 👩🏼⚖️And policymakers should pay attention to what happens when capital, talent, and commercialization start reinforcing each other. Virginia is not trying to imitate another startup hub. It is becoming its own.
