The most successful projects aren’t built by the loudest leaders or the people with the most authority. They’re built by foremen who consistently earn their crew’s trust through their actions. The principles in this graphic aren’t complicated. They’re the leadership behaviors that create safer jobsites, stronger teams, and better project outcomes. Great foremen stay in the field, make safety their personal responsibility, remove obstacles before they become problems, and invest in the people they lead. One lesson I’ve learned is this: Workers in the field are professional “Foreman Watchers.” They notice everything. If you wear your safety glasses, they notice. If you skip PPE once, they notice. If you take shortcuts, they’ll eventually believe shortcuts are acceptable. If you treat people with respect, they’ll begin treating each other the same way. Whether we realize it or not, every foreman establishes the standard the crew will eventually follow. A field leader isn’t just responsible for today’s production. They’re responsible for developing tomorrow’s leaders. Every apprentice, journeyman, and young foreman is learning what leadership looks like by watching someone else. That’s mentorship, whether it’s intentional or not. The habits you demonstrate today will influence how someone else leads five, ten, or even twenty years from now. The legacy of a great foreman isn’t measured only by the projects they complete. It’s measured by the people they develop. Leadership isn’t something you announce. But the biggest project isn't going up—it's going underneath. The new Hudson River rail tunnels, part of the Gateway Program, are one of the largest infrastructure projects in the US. They're being built to replace tunnels that are more than 100 years old and will help improve one of the busiest rail routes in the country. It got me thinking... The projects that have the biggest impact aren't always the ones everyone can see. Some of the most important engineering happens underground, behind the scenes, quietly keeping cities moving. He could walk into a trailer, glance at the submittal log, and call whether the job was headed for trouble. Before he read a single drawing. I asked him how. He said: "A clean log means somebody upstream is paying attention. A messy one means they're already behind, they just don't know it yet." He was right more often than the schedule was. Because the paperwork is a leading indicator. A log with mystery rows, missing dates, and no source trail is not a documentation problem. It is a preview. It tells you the team is reacting instead of running the work. The drama on site is just that disorganization showing up three weeks later with a cost attached. The boring documents are where you can see the future of a job, if you are willing to look. Twenty years in, I still check the logs first. What is the one document that tells you a job is heading for trouble?

John R Smith liked thisNot that I’m bragging, but maybe I am , I mean, just a little :) The more time I spend in construction, the more I realize something, finding a true construction QA/QC Manager is not easy, and I don’t mean someone who just checks boxes or pushes paperwork, I mean someone who understands the field, and able to stand their ground when quality is compromised! Now add another layer to it , being a female in this space, you’re often underestimated before you even walk the job site, you have to prove your technical knowledge, your leadership, and your voice consistently. the truth is, quality doesn’t care about titles, or genders I learned over the years to embrace being different in this industry, because that difference is exactly what makes me effective So yes… maybe I am one of a kind And honestly? I’m okay owning that
