The event is the “Mr. and Miss. Freshman Pageant,” and is now an annual campus wide event that caters to freshman encouraging student development and a sense of belonging for all. The event is the “Mr. and Miss. Freshman Pageant,” and is now an annual campus wide event that caters to freshman encouraging student development and a sense of belonging for all. This event helps to tie in all types of people no only students. Resident Assistants, Student Affairs professionals, and the judges involved, are well respected facility members of the University making this program well rounded with potential to grow as years go on.

This event derived from a small "single building program" called "Mr. Mimosa" which catered to boys only in the freshman resident hall, Mimosa Hall at Rowan University. The event was only one night with about a donzen competitors. Now, the event calls for 6 to 12 investing individuals boy or girl from 6 buildings who go through two rounds, the first held in a large freshman common area. Individuals who represented themselves through a talent, Q & A, Rowan Pride and attire go to the second round and night which is held on a much larger scale in the University's student center where over 200 students could come and watch. Winners receive the well advertised incentive: a sash and their title,a photo placed in the student center to represent their year, building and accomplishment on winning.

The event was a part of the Resident Life A.S.K.U.S. Programing Model and took a team of Resident Assistants and Resident Director from all 6 Freshman Halls to run. Budgeting came from all 6 buildings, as well as strategic adverting to recruit students. Use of bulletin boards, social media, surveys and flyers created buzz for this 2 night event.
