Joe Jimenez shared thisLast week I participated in a very interesting discussion about the impact of AI in drug discovery and drug development. The AI in Healthcare Summit in San Francisco, sponsored by Shaper Capital brought together a great mix of leaders in healthcare to discuss how AI is changing our industry. https://lnkd.in/gwH8-xbxJoe Jimenez shared thisIs the impact of AI in drug discovery going to be more like computer-aided drug design — or more like the computer? It's a simple question with a profound answer, and it was at the heart of one of the most thought-provoking panels at our AI in Healthcare Summit this week. Vera Mucaj moderated a conversation with Marc Tessier-Lavigne, Daphne Koller, Joe Jimenez, and Brian Alexander on AI and the future of drug development — and the implications were hard to overstate: 🤞 AI has the potential to move target selection in clinical trials from luck to engineering — dramatically increasing the probability of success and unlocking major gains in productivity. 💻 The answer to that opening question? The computer. One day, we simply won't know how drug discovery ever happened without it. 🧬 And what would accelerate it fastest? A large, diverse, densely phenotyped, longitudinal database with human genetics & causal data included. Joe Jimenez reposted thisJoe Jimenez reposted thisAditum Bio, an Oakland, CA-based biotech builder, has created another company with a drug developer in China. Aditum's Clavis Bio will work with Fosun Pharma on up to 20 projects over the course of five years, with potential milestones totaling $7.25 billion, a spokesperson for the Shanghai-based biopharma told Endpoints News. Aditum has raised three funds since 2019 to build single-asset biotech companies formed around early clinical-stage medicines or experimental drugs on the verge of entering human trials, such as its work with Versanis, Tempero and others. With Clavis, though, Aditum is building a biotech that could span many more assets than it is used to, and it’s not focused on a near-term drug prospect. Clavis and Fosun could set up individual companies for each resulting drug prospect, with Fosun getting a stake in the new company. #aditumbio #clavisbio #fosunpharma #shanghaibiotech #chinabiotech https://lnkd.in/gd-qsfvhJoe Jimenez's Aditum goes to Fosun for major biobuck-loaded collaborationJoe Jimenez's Aditum goes to Fosun for major biobuck-loaded collaboration

Joe Jimenez shared thisToday we proudly announced the formation of Kalexo Bio, a portfolio company of Aditum Bio Fund 3, which will develop a new cardiovascular drug in collaboration with Mabwell Biosciences. This novel, dual target siRNA therapy for lipid management will be developed in patients with dyslipidemia, for the prevention of high-risk atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). This therapy combines two genetically validated targets which are major drivers of cardiovascular disease: Lp(a) and PCSK9. Over 400 million people globally suffer from atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, which remains a leading cause of death. We look forward to rapidly moving this therapy into the clinic, and to patients in need. Congratulations to the Aditum Bio team for getting this deal over the finish line. 2025 delivered real outcomes for SR One Capital Management: 🔹$1.9B in pharma upfronts generated by five portfolio companies this year 🔹The largest discovery / platform research deal of 2025 by upfront (ADARx Pharmaceuticals Inc.–AbbVie) 🔹Two private M&A outcomes in under 18 months from initial investment (Renalys Pharma–Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and Elektrofi–Halozyme, Inc.) 🔹Public companies compounding value through execution, not sentiment (Zenas BioPharma, Mineralys Therapeutics, Inc.) This past September also marked five years since SR One spun out from GSK to become an independent investment firm. These outcomes reflect something we have been engineering since 2020: the biotech business model is changing. The prior era was defined by lower costs of capital, longer timelines, and IPO-led liquidity. That model no longer produces durable returns. The next era will reward: 🔹Capital efficiency and faster paths to proof 🔹Early pharma engagement as validation and liquidity 🔹Selective use of public markets to compound and realize value — not to replace private-stage outcomes We built SR One for this moment. Increasingly, this means designing companies and development plans that are global from day one — leveraging transnational execution to compress timelines, reducing capital intensity, and reaching decision-quality data faster. This perspective also shaped how we convened the ecosystem. At the SR One Summit this fall, we brought together portfolio executives, pharma leaders, and LPs for direct conversations about what it takes to build, scale, and exit biotech companies in this cycle. The conclusion was clear: judgment, partnership, and execution now matter more than ever. If the last decade of biotech rewarded capital abundance, the next will reward precision — in science, capital allocation, and collaboration. 2025 showed what that looks like in practice. Let’s keep building.

I see deal sourcing entering a new phase. As Ranu and Tyler point out, a lot of future value is sitting in earlier-stage or under-scaled assets that generate limited revenue today but hold meaningful growth potential. AI-powered always-on deal radar brings real-time intelligence into the process. Instead of periodic outreach, teams can maintain constant visibility, identify opportunities earlier, and evaluate them with greater confidence. From a transactions perspective, pipeline renewal pressures and competition keep rising. I believe moving from episodic sourcing to persistent insight could shape the next chapter of M&A execution.
