We are building next-generation language capabilities that enable natural, expressive, and intelligent communication through Meta's wearable platforms via our industry-leading electromyography (EMG) program. Our team within the Wearables Input and Interaction organization is multi-disciplinary, combining machine learning, language modeling, and on-evice optimization to push the boundaries of what's possible with language AI on constrained hardware. This is a unique opportunity to conduct cutting-edge LLM research with direct product impact -- shaping how people interact with the next generation of wearable devices. We are looking for a researcher who can drive innovation in language model development, optimization, and deployment while setting technical direction for a small team. Today is my last day at Meta. After 11+ years, I felt it was time to close this chapter. I’m taking a few months off and then we’ll see what comes next. I leave proud of what we accomplished together in my time with Integrity and Reality Labs teams, but with mixed emotions. Case in point: Last week, we announced that Neural Handwriting is available for all Meta Neural Band users! What an accomplishment and what a pleasure to see users' positive response. At the same time, tech industry is in upheaval and employees at Meta wait with trepidation to learn the outcomes of planned layoffs and moves. My heart is heavy for my ex-colleagues. Below I share a slightly edited copy of my internal “badge post”. I think it captures the spirit of the moment: When I joined Facebook, I assumed my time here would be short. I’d learn a bunch, build some things, and move on. Instead, I found a mission I was passionate about, hard problems to pour myself into, and (most importantly) people I loved working with. People that cared deeply about doing good for our users. Managers that put people first. A company trying, imperfectly but earnestly, to define its role in the world. What an amazing opportunity it has been. Where else could you work with such great people on building Core ML technologies to keep a billion people safe, combat misinformation, and contribute to the health of elections globally during a transformative period for social media? And if that wasn’t enough, then pivot to building a neural interface (which I believe will change the way people compute) and launch a consumer product on one of the world’s most visible stages! The years passed in the blink of an eye. So, why am I leaving now? Bluntly, I don’t have the motivation or energy for what comes next. In launching EMG and Handwriting, this team pulled off an extraordinary feat, and everyone close to the project knows just how much it took. There is still so much to build, and I am genuinely excited for the potential. But, you have to love the work AND the environment to deliver on ambitious goals. The old rule is to leave the stage while they still want an encore. I leave proud of what we built, head held high. So, what’s next? A mentor once told me that “at this point in our careers, if you’re not having fun, you’re doing the wrong thing”. My plan is to take some time off, a real solid multi-month break, enjoy this summer with friends and family, and then go about finding my fun. I can't possibly thank everyone who deserves it (11 years accumulates an embarrassing amount of debts). But I hope you all know: your support and goodwill has had an immeasurable impact on my life, and I am deeply appreciative of every one of you. The hardest part of this decision is knowing I won't get to work on what comes next with the people here. I can't wait to see what you all build next.

After almost 5 incredible years at Axon, I’m closing a chapter that has meant a lot to me. I joined Axon as a junior software engineer and had the opportunity to grow into an engineer while helping build the Justice platform from the ground up. What started as a greenfield project is now a product that generates billions of dollars in revenue and supports justice agencies around the world. Being part of that journey has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my career. More than the technology, it was the people that made it special: * Brian Glaister – thank you for bringing me from the to Axon and for leading and expanding the Justice business with such clarity and vision. * Ron West – thank you for being an incredible engineering manager and leader. Watching you be promoted to Director of Engineering has been inspiring, and I’m grateful for your trust and guidance. * Andrew Oberhardt & Michael Vincent – you are the role models of what great software engineers look like. I learned so much from your technical depth, ownership, and standards. * Kevin Gangi – thank you for being such a great product designer, translating real pain points into clear product needs, and showing what great product design and collaboration really mean. I’m proud of what we built together in Justice team and grateful for every late night, design review, debate, and win along the way. Axon will always be a special place for me, and I’m excited to take what I’ve learned into my next chapter.
