Why? Because the real difference usually isn’t the machines — it’s how the business approaches gaming as part of their operation. What I’ve seen across Illinois: 💡 The highest-performing locations treat gaming like a revenue stream — not an afterthought They: • Think intentionally about placement and flow (not just “where there’s space”) • Train staff on how to engage guests around gaming • Create an environment people actually want to stay in • Understand their customer base and align the setup accordingly • Work with operators who actively optimize performance — not just install and disappear Meanwhile, others: • Tuck machines in a corner and hope for the best • Never revisit the setup after install • Miss opportunities to increase dwell time and spend Same opportunity. Completely different outcomes. As Chicago starts opening up, a lot of the conversation is about if and when to get in… But the bigger long-term question is: 👉 How are you going to do it once you’re in? Because simply having gaming doesn’t guarantee results. Execution and having an operator that treats you like a partner, does. This May marks Doug’s five-year anniversary with PSG, and he has been with PENN for nearly 25 years. In his role, Doug establishes long-lasting relationships with business owners, helping them maximize their overall gaming revenues for their businesses. Along with maintaining strong relationships with current owners, finding new business partners is important to maintaining a strong and aggressive Prairie State Gaming portfolio. The most enjoyable aspect of his job is traveling throughout the Chicagoland area, taking care of his account owners, and building strong relationships with them. He enjoys the competitive industry and the daily challenges faced. Outside of work, Doug enjoys spending time with his wife and twin boys. They enjoy the outdoor activities such as fishing, camping, attending baseball and football games, along with music concerts. Both of his boys are attending their freshman year of college and his one son is playing baseball and pitching for his Community College. Collins boarded a Concorde and flew to the U.S. for a Live Aid benefit concert in Philadelphia after playing the London stage the same day. Collins performed at London's Wembley Stadium that morning, both solo and as part of a reunited Led Zeppelin set on drums, before catching the supersonic Concorde flight to Philadelphia, where he performed again at JFK Stadium and played drums for a reunited Led Zeppelin set there as well. The feat made him the only performer to appear at both Live Aid venues on the same day, and remains one of the most talked about logistical achievements in rock concert history…

Good timing as we’ve made a lot of changes bringing two companies/teams together in the last year. While we have a lot of AI on our roadmap (and frankly some really exciting stuff) it’s getting the people together to foster our current team culture and shape a new one. I’ve always put a lot a stock into the importance of a strong team culture. There’s always a lot of process, playbook and tech that takes up a lot of the energy in any transformation. That’s important Leaders, don’t forget about your people…they are your greatest asset

Beforehand, the conversation is usually about the machines. Afterward, the conversation tends to be about the business. 📊 Across Illinois, I've noticed operators often focus on questions like: 1️⃣ How much revenue will it generate? 2️⃣ What kind of customers will it bring? 3️⃣ Is it the right fit for our establishment? Those are all reasonable questions. But over time, a different set of conversations starts to emerge. 📈 Operators begin talking more about: -consistency -customer retention -reinvestment opportunities -overall business performance In other words, the conversation shifts from: "What is it?" to "How do we get the most out of it?" That's an interesting transition. And I think it's one of the reasons newer markets and established markets often view gaming so differently. ⏳ Chicago is still in the stage where many businesses are evaluating the opportunity from the outside looking in. In other parts of Illinois, many operators have already moved on to figuring out how it fits into the bigger picture of their business. The questions people ask at the beginning are rarely the same questions they ask once they have experience. That's something worth thinking about. Jeff Murdock liked thisJeff Murdock liked this49 years ago today I was reading a local job ad in the neighborhood paper, Bally Manufacturing had a position open as a service tech. I had some electronics experience but not enough, but they had an opening for an assistant to the engineer that designs slot machines. Slot machines, I had seen one once! Today I can say, it was a great choice of an industry. This industry gave me a shot and I’ve loved the ride. I’m not ready to say it’s over as someone once said “if you love what you do, you’re not really working!” How true. I love the Gaming Industry and the people in it! Thank you to Ed Grimm, Bob Mesh and Art Brey for taking a chance on an 18 year kid! And thanks to all the friends I’ve made over these years! Here’s to many more!
