I’m almost a year into my journey with Encore Fire Protection, and my smile is still ear to ear. I’m so proud to work for an organization with a mission I truly believe in. But today, it hit me in a new way: “They are helping ensure my son’s safety.” That thought stopped me dead in my tracks. I’m grateful for the experiences that brought me here and for the chance to continue working within the HPE ecosystem in a new capacity. In this role, I’ll be supporting HPE’s Platinum, High Gold, and NSP partners, focused on driving growth, strengthening alignment, and delivering real results together. Sal joins us as Director of Product Transformation, bringing a strong background in education and innovation. His career includes leading MyLabs at Pearson, shaping programs at General Assembly, and founding AI Tinkerers Boston, a community that’s grown to over 1,500 members. He also mentors startups through C10 Labs, an AI-first venture studio. Based near Boston, Sal lives with his wife, 11-year-old son, and their Olde English Sheepdog. An avid sailor, he also serves as treasurer of the Squantum Yacht Club. We’re excited to have him on board as we continue building learning experiences that work better for everyone.

Regardless i've had my eye on writing a quick series about what we should be advocating for - both for ourselves (and those in the job market) as well as those of us in the position to interview and advocate for others. I'd like to reframe how we discover meaningful information about others - as well as how we improve our own portfolios and optics for others to discover - through one main lens: "Tell a story" If someone applied to a role you were hiring for and their GitHub activity was empty - what do you do next? We've seen countless examples that parallel this with regards to gaps in employment and ways to approach that conversation empathetically. So part one (link in the comments below) is simply a reminder - there is more to the story. Why did you get x certification? What does your GitHub/LinkedIn/Blog activity tell me about you? How are you involved in advocating for people or technology? Part two is how we can advocate for ourselves - expect that later this week. Beyond resume review and general networking - what do you believe are good questions to ask people that can help lead them to a better story of their journey?
