One of the first prospects we talked to after the pivot was a genuinely good cause with good people behind it. The kind of work I know our team would've gotten energized by. And we told them we didn't think it was the right time. Why? There were some things on their end they'd want to button up before a social media agency could do them any good. So the honest thing was to say upfront, "Here's why we don't think this is the right time", instead of taking the work and hoping it went okay. I'll be honest, that's going to be harder in this space than it used to be. When we served a bunch of different industries, saying no was easier. A lot of those conversations just clearly weren't a fit. Here, I already know I'm going to want to say yes to people I'll have to say no to, at least for now. Felt bad telling them. Thr nonprofit direction for @Socialistics wasn't our first pivot. When our inbound leads started drying up, my first instinct was to go find a service industry to serve. Something transactional, where we could drive leads and point to clear results. So we looked at stuff like window and door companies, pool installers. The low-hanging fruit. And we started playing in that space. We had the right strategy and the right tech, and if we'd doubled down I think it probably could have worked. It just didn't feel good. A few of us started asking each other, is this really what we want to be doing? Is this going to keep us interested in five years? We kind of knew the answer, but we didn't want to bail too early on something we hadn't given a fair shot. Looking back, that was the fail we needed. It's what pushed us to stop asking what turns revenue around the fastest and start asking who we want to serve. And once we let ourselves ask it that way, the nonprofit answer got clear pretty fast. #Founders #NonprofitMarketing

We're about two weeks into pivoting the agency to nonprofit work, and I've been sitting with something I didn't expect to learn about myself. For a while before this, our revenue was dropping and I was carrying a lot of anxiety about it. I told myself the stress was about money, about covering the cost of the business and keeping everyone employed. And some of it was. But when I sat with it, most of that weight wasn't about the numbers. It was that I had no North Star. I didn't know where we were going. I just felt kind of lost, like I wasn't sure what we were even supposed to be doing. Once we got clear on this direction, that feeling didn't vanish, but it got a lot lighter. It's still going to take time to turn the ship. I know that. But I know we're on a path now, and I didn't have that before. #NonprofitMarketing #DigitalStrategy #Socialistics

Couldn't be more excited about our pivot to non-profits and to provide the level of attention, service and results they traditionally have not had access to.

Eight years ago, I took the leap into entrepreneurship. It was both planned and necessary. I've always been a square peg in a round hole when it comes to working for others. It wasn't because I didn't like people or couldn't work well with them. I just always felt like I wanted to do more. I wanted to move fast, take big swings, and take chances. I got fed up with meeting culture and office politics and wanted to build something for myself. I wanted the freedom to fail and learn from it. Most importantly, I wanted a life of freedom. To me, time and freedom matter more than money. I'm not naive. We have to pay the bills, and being a successful entrepreneur helps. I just wanted the power to decide things like, "I need a massage at 2:00 today," and that's okay. I want to catch my kid's Little League game without being stuck in two hours of traffic and missing half of it. Or, "I want to fly to San Diego for a week just to be in the sun while I work." Where, how, and when you work never mattered to me. As long as you deliver results and keep clients happy, live your life like you want. I built a business that would do exactly that, for myself and others. For the first 6 years, we killed it: seven figures within a couple of years and a great name for ourselves. But this past year, that all changed. Our pipeline dried up...and trying to serve everyone didn't work anymore. AI, economy, increased competition...you name it. Something had to change. I racked my brain trying to figure out the right path to get us back on track. I got caught up thinking about it through the lens of money. Stress and anxiety took their toll. After countless conversations and soul searching, I figured out the next step. I stopped focusing on money and got back to my core values. I started asking the right questions: Who do I want to work with? What will it take to get re-energized and take this to its next place? Couldn't be more excited about where Socialistics is headed. Today we officially announce our new direction. We're still a full-service social media agency, but we'll now work exclusively with nonprofits. I've always felt this was the inevitable path. I'm passionate about helping others and making a difference, sometimes to a fault. With the rise of AI, we can deliver world-class service to those who need it most, at price points they can afford, and that excites me. I'm in the home stretch of my career, and I couldn't be more thrilled. I feel re-energized and ready to spend the next 10 years making a difference with some of the most impactful organizations in the world. That's what will bring me joy moving forward.
