The biggest shift I have seen as a VP of Design isn't AI-generated wireframes or prototyping shortcuts. It is designers using AI to step directly into frontend coding. No more design QA. No more translating Figma into tickets. Designers polish the experience in the same medium the user actually sees and feels. This change transformed my team. Designers loved the autonomy. Engineers loved being free to work on complex backend code. Quality went up, and we shipped faster. The more I talk with design leaders, the clearer it is that this will not stay a niche skill. This is becoming part of how modern design teams work. I launched CraftAmplify to help designers build this skill properly. We focus on writing production-quality code rather than prototypes. The response has been incredible. Thank you to everyone who put in the work and started shipping real code. Watching designers push their first production PR has been the highlight of my year. Each cohort is capped at five designers to keep the experience hands-on. The TrustPay Case Study 🚀 Designing for trust means designing for people. That’s what TrustPay reminded me of: that even the simplest transaction is built on confidence, clarity, and accessibility. Design Impact Through a combination of embedded payments, QR, and USSD pathways, TrustPay bridges financial inclusion across user types; from digital-savvy customers to offline communities. The final design doesn’t just simplify payments; it empowers trust and reliability in every interaction. Next Steps The next phase will focus on front-end development, user testing, and refining the experience based on real feedback. Our goal is to ensure the product not only looks good but works intuitively across devices and contexts, especially in low-connectivity environments. “Design is no longer a bottleneck. It’s a multiplier.” Very interesting look into evolution/present of design and design leadership. Faster prototyping and code-first design is not just about tooling and technology but enablement of design and culture to fight through the noise pollution we all fight to make something happen. It’s about rooting in the strategic ideas and modifying old systems and ops to enable present technology to work for us. A view not just about the tech of AI but about how we use it to solve problems with improving systems and the execution of ideas. Writing effective prompts and LLMs is the ‘how’ and maybe the ‘what’ but not always the ‘why’.
