After reaching out to 7,000 developers, the verdict is in: Premium pricing is broken for games. The "one-and-done" model (ie: $40 for a lifetime license) sounds like the standard. But for the majority of developers I talk to, it is a structural trap that prevents long-term success. The "Lose-Lose" Cycle of Premium Pricing: 1) The Abandonment Phase: Once a player buys the game, the developer’s financial incentive to improve it drops to zero. 2)The Project Pivot: Developers are forced to move to the "next thing" immediately to keep the lights on. 3) The Content Gap: Players stop receiving updates, DLCs, or polish. 4) The Brand Decay: Because the game is never "finished" or nurtured, the developer never builds a strong brand.
