Jackie Wei Green reposted thisJackie Wei Green reposted thisThe future isn't something we wait for. It's something we shape. Every day, leaders face decisions that will influence the future of our cities, businesses and communities. The challenge is making choices that don't just solve today's problems, but stand up over time. That's the idea behind Design for what's next. It's a reflection of how we work: bringing together different perspectives, seeing the bigger picture, and turning ambition into real-world outcomes. This is just a glimpse. Jackie Wei Green reposted thisJackie Wei Green reposted thisWe've been tapped by Sound Transit to deliver a new 70-acre light rail storage and repair hub in Washington. The project will be critical in helping the agency prepare for the planned Tacoma Dome Link Extension and building resilience for future transit operations. Working alongside Hoffman Construction Company, our team will operate under Sound Transit's first progressive design-build procurement to deliver an initial scope of work which includes final design, site preparation, roadway improvements, long-lead material procurement and construction staging and support facilities. “This complex facility is an opportunity for Arup to showcase what we do best — combining deep technical excellence with creative collaboration,” notes Claire McConnell who is leading the project as Design Manager. Once complete, the Operations and Maintenance Facility (OMF) South will provide space to store, test, commission and maintain at least 72 new 190-foot-long Series 3 light rail vehicles and will include a maintenance-of-way building and other support facilities. #Transit #DesignBuild

The museum's first exhibition, Machine Dreams: Rainforest, is an epic journey across five galleries where visitors will be able to engage with and influence ever-changing artworks inspired by the natural world. Featuring more than 1.5 billion pixels, real-time scent augmentation and biofeedback, 300 channels of spatial audio, DATALAND emerges as the world’s first omni-sensory museum. As both prime engineer and AV Owner’s Representative for the audiovisual and acoustic design of the space, we helped translate DATALAND’s artistic vision into a coordinated and buildable delivery strategy. Stay tuned for more details as we gear up for the opening next month. #DATALAND #MachineDreamsRainforest #Art #AI

Jackie Wei Green reposted thisJackie Wei Green reposted thisSpanning over 1,600ft and designed to have a 170-year service life, the New Harbor Bridge in Corpus Christi is a feat of modern engineering. Opened in 2025, the bridge replaces a critical coastal crossing with a six‑lane structure that includes a shared‑use path for pedestrians and cyclists. We served as Engineer of Record for the award-winning project working alongside the Texas Department of Transportation and FlatironDragados. The bridge exceeds typical durability standards and supports long-term sustainability in a challenging marine environment. Resilience was a key design priority, with our wind engineering team addressing heightened hurricane risk in Corpus Christi along the Texas coast. This landmark infrastructure project is designed to enhance safety, mobility, and regional connectivity for all users for generations to come. #Infrastructure #BridgeDesign #Bridges

A 6:00 a.m. start in Bogotá’s cool weather was a great way to begin the day. One of the things I have always enjoyed is spending time with colleagues outside work. Whether it’s through sports, music, or any shared activity, these moments help us get to know each other beyond our day to day roles. It is something we have encouraged in our Bogotá office since we started building the team 12 years ago. We rarely talk about work, but we build the trust and friendships that make it easier to work together when challenges come our way. Great teams are built through shared experiences, not just shared projects.

Jackie Wei Green liked thisJackie Wei Green liked thisLast week, it was a pleasure to host clients, colleagues and friends at our Arup Los Angeles office for a conversation with Chris Dite, Arshad Hussain and Ana Paula Loreto. Together, they shared their experience working across World Cups, Olympic Games, host cities, venues and mobility systems around the globe. As we support the World Cup work across the US, hearing their experiences was inspiring and informative. A few insights that stayed with me: - Every host city should embrace its own identity rather than trying to replicate someone else's event. - Some of the most memorable moments happen beyond the venue, ie. in public spaces, neighborhoods and community celebrations that make an event feel truly local. - Los Angeles has a rare opportunity to build on a sequence of major events, creating long-term capability, confidence and civic momentum over time. The biggest transportation challenge isn't the stadium itself but often the journey to and from it, making mobility and the "last mile" critical to the visitor experience. - Great events aren't defined by perfect plans. They're defined by well-prepared teams that communicate clearly, adapt quickly and trust one another. My sincere thanks to Jim Bell for bringing us together this week, to Chris, Arshad and Ana for so generously sharing their experiences, and to everyone who joined us. Even after 20 years in this industry, evenings like this remind me why I love working in this space: bringing together global experience, great storytelling and curious people who are passionate about creating better places and unforgettable experiences. #WeAreArup #HostCities #LA28 #Sport

It reinforces what we all are experiencing, and will experience with increasing frequency if we do not speed up our rate of change. Make no mistake, climate action is happening. And despite denial from many in power, the economics of energy have fundamentally shifted to favor clean energy if competing on an even playing field. But...we need more and faster. https://lnkd.in/gP47w8aPTop Science Panel Backs Research Linking Extreme Weather to Climate ChangeTop Science Panel Backs Research Linking Extreme Weather to Climate Change

Confession: when I was first approached about the prospect of using virtual and extended reality for human rights advocacy, I was skeptical. But after being a part of the project team for Solwata, I am won over. Immersive documentary gives us a new way to engage audiences on the human story of climate relocation. This project transports viewers across oceans and timezones, to stand alongside the people of Walande, Ngongosila, and Kwai, and learn from their strength and determination to stay together as a community, against all odds. Extensive research shows how the climate crisis is forcing coastal communities to make impossible choices. We know that planned relocation is a last-resort adaptation measure, and a profoundly complex human rights challenge. When an entire community must move, everything from their cultural heritage and dignity to their land rights and safety is on the line. And we know that above all else, policies should protect indigenous communities' right to self-determination, to make adaptation decisions on their own terms and timelines. Traditional research and reports are essential tools to communicate these complexities, but the stakes are so high, we need to try every tool in the toolkit to break through. We need policymakers, funders, and governments to urgently understand and anticipate the deeply human challenges of planned relocation. And as Solwata heads to Venice this September, to COP31 in Türkiye, and far beyond, our goal is to use this powerful medium to strengthen global support from funders and advocate for policies that protect relocating communities worldwide. Deepest thanks to the incredible team, to Mark Ruffalo for lending his voice, and most critically, to the community leaders of Walande, Ngongosila and Kwai who shared their stories and visions for this project. What a joy it's been to have a hand in shaping icons around the city such as Pike Place, the Space Needle, and the Spheres; working for PNNL on their next generation of labs with cutting-edge battery development capabilities; and translating that experience into ZEV charging facilities and now transit. Take this as your reminder to always snap a few fun site photos when you can!

It requires a clear way to evaluate technical risk. Our new framework gives designers, contractors, and owners a practical methodology to assess emerging concrete technologies, understand performance and delivery risks, and implement mitigation strategies throughout design and construction. Grounded in US standards, this report helps project teams make informed decisions and adopt lower-carbon concrete with greater confidence. This Wall Street Journal article highlights what many of us have experienced firsthand: Communications leaders are helping shape business strategy, build trust, manage risk and serve as trusted counselors to CEOs. In an environment where every stakeholder interaction can influence reputation, communications isn't just about telling the story. It's about helping write it. https://lnkd.in/ezaArK9n

5️⃣ easy steps anyone can take to make their writing shorter and smarter. Quoted below are the 5️⃣ steps, written by Eleanor Hawkins, communications strategist and writer for Axios. ❝ 1️⃣ Stop being selfish! Think about the person you're communicating to, not your own ego or ambitions, when writing. This instantly makes you more respectful of their time and attention. 2️⃣ Grab me! Before you write anything for social media, or text, or your boss or your friend group, think about the most important thing you want them to know. Then distill it into one sentence. 3️⃣ Write like a human. Most of us are pretty normal in conversation. But there's a defect in our species: For whatever reason, when we sit down to write, we try to sound like Walt Whitman or a Harvard nerd. 4️⃣ Keep it simple. Short, tight words and sentences are always winners. Subject, verb, object! Break multiple points into bullet points to juice recall. 5️⃣ Just stop. The greatest gift you can give to yourself and others is time. So use as few words and sentences and paragraphs as humanly possible. Then stop!” ❞ For more content that’s of particular interest to comms pros, consider subscribing to Axios’ Communicators newsletter. This is a story every PR and corporate communications professional should read and sit with. In light of the recent headlines about leaders speaking out (or stepping away) over the trajectory of AI, Hunter-Torricke’s story is another cautionary signal. The future of AI cannot be shaped solely by companies or “Davos-going elites”. It requires broader public scrutiny and stronger institutional guardrails to define the rules of engagement. For those of us guiding and shaping client and company narratives, this is also a good reminder that integrity isn’t a “nice to have.” It’s the foundation. Without it, trust erodes, and once lost, it’s incredibly hard to rebuild. You might secure short-term wins by smoothing the edges or delaying hard truths. But the long-term business and reputational costs almost always outweigh the discomfort of honesty upfront. Many years ago, I worked for Bob Winslow, the former Global Managing Director of FH’s Technology Sector. He taught me the “look in the mirror test”: at the end of the day, can you look at yourself and know you did the right thing, or at least the best thing you could with the information you had? I’ve carried that lesson with me ever since. If we believe the former founder of Microsoft is right, that AI may be the most transformative technology of our time, then the stakes are too high for anything less than that standard. Technology will move fast. Capital will move faster. Our values are the only thing that should not move at all. https://lnkd.in/gCmxVMgY
