The $60 CPM for ChatGPT ads is frankly a good deal when you look past the sticker shock and account for the 20–40% waste currently plaguing CTV and the Open Web. Most ad platforms charge you for 'interruption' and often serve ads to 'ghost' audiences, ChatGPT offers a zero-waste environment (at least in theory). You are going to be paying for Active Intent - the context/moment a user is close to a decision - making this a far more efficient spend than a $20 CPM on a platform rife with fraud and low viewability. Calculate the eCPM for CTV factoring about 20% waste and you will understand. By combining this high-intent context with smart AEO (Answer Engine Optimization), brands can drive conversions with surgical precision. And while some worry about attribution, but this will be solved soon enough. Red flags that scream "Made-for-Advertising" site. MFA sites exist for one reason: to stack ads and drain your budget. The Association of National Advertisers's Q1 2025 report showed MFA spend dropped to 0.4% from 15% in 2023. Progress, right? Not really, because 25% of advertisers still had 5-28% of their budgets bleeding into MFA domains in Q2 2025. How to recognize an MFA website: (1) Way too many ads MFA pages have dozens of ad slots. Anything over 10 units should make you pause. Pop-ups everywhere, banners stacked on banners, interstitials blocking the content you came for. (2) Ads that never stop refreshing MFA pages auto-reload ads to pump up impression counts. Leave a tab open, and they'll reload hundreds of times. Your viewability metrics look great. Your engagement is zero. (3) Content that feels off Clickbait headlines that don't deliver what they promise. Shallow articles, AI-generated filler, or just recycled content from somewhere else. If it reads like nonsense, it probably is. (4) Traffic that's all bought MFA sites don't have real audiences. They buy clicks from sketchy sources. Check the referral data. If it's all paid social or weird recommendation widgets, run. (5) Sites that look like templates Generic design. No "About Us" page. No contact info. No real navigation. Feels like someone threw it together in an afternoon. Believe me, they did. (6) Sketchy domains 88% of MFA spend in APAC went to sites that wouldn't even disclose their country. Brand new domains. Hidden WHOIS. Names that make no sense. The damage: Pixalate found that ~10% of open-programmatic spend (about $716M) went to MFA sites in Q3 2025. Premium sites converted 91% better than MFA sites. You're paying the same CPM for inventory that does nothing. And your brand? 81% of consumers get annoyed seeing ads on low-quality sites. 62% would stop buying from you.
