It was an unforgettable experience that allowed me to connect with over 500 GTM employees from around the world, hear from several of Microsoft's senior leaders, and tour the HQ in Redmond, WA. One of the standout moments for me was the keynote session led by Dr. Michael Gervais, high-performance psychologist and founder of Finding Mastery. Following his keynote, we separated into breakout group to create personal mission statements. Mine is: "Create Purpose: Connect, Reflect, & Give it Away." At 5 months into my time at Microsoft, this event was an amazing way to tap into the broader community and better understand how I directly contribute to the success of the company. I feel connected and excited for what's to come as I continue to build a career here. Looking forward to the future and the many opportunities ahead!

How do you support your salespeople? Do you buy the best/newest tools? Invest in your BDR/SDR organization? Have a strong commission structure? Want to know something simple, not that costly, that goes a long way. Consider giving yearly raises. I think a lot of companies don't think they need to give their salespeople salary increases. Justifying it because they are making so much commission, that's their yearly increase. But, that's not an increase, that's commission. Look at it this way. If you don't want to lose your top salesperson. And they're making $250K. $100K salary, $100K OTE because, obviously a 50/50 split, and then $50K in kickers. If a major competitior comes along with a plan for $150/300K plan that's going to be pretty hard to ignore. If all they do is meet expectations, they make $50K more, and if they exceed like they are now, they may well be making $150K more... Now ask yourself, if someone called you and offered you $150K more, would you at least want to have a conversation? #RaiseTheRoose

Hiring another quota-carrying AE won’t fix your growth problem until you fix your sourcing problem. You know that feeling when you tell yourself, “If I just hire one more AE, everything will magically hit plan”? Yeah… every founder has said that at least once. But after two decades of SaaS growth hiring, the real issue is almost never the AE headcount. It’s the sourcing. It’s always the sourcing. Here’s the uncomfortable truth: your next AE hire needs to pass five reality checks if you’re a Series A to C startup selling into mid-market or enterprise ($10M to $100M). And no, “they hit quota at a big logo” doesn’t count. Five must pass truth checks: • They’ve built pipeline in a world where they were the brand. The product wasn’t famous. There was no hype. They had to be the story and the reason a prospect let them in the door. • They’ve sold into companies that didn’t recognize the product name at all. If the buyer didn’t know the company, the AE had to be the credibility. (If prospects said “Who are you again?” they didn’t panic.) • They understand territory-building math. Not the “my SDR books everything for me” math, but actual startup math. Meetings per week. Sources. Ratios. Inputs that create outputs. No fairy dust. • They thrive when the process feels more like a construction zone than a finished building. Startups need AEs who create structure instead of waiting for someone else to hand it to them. • They walk in with the mindset of “No one is carrying me.” Top AEs don’t tolerate being dragged down by under-performers because they know it quietly sinks everyone’s number. Skip even one of these and your new AE will be relying on hope and luck instead of repeatable inputs and predictable results. What to watch in interviews: Look for sourcing discipline, brand-self awareness, and real territory math. If you only screen for quota attainment at big-brand companies, you might end up hiring someone who’s used to selling on brand… not someone who knows how to be the brand. PS Your pipeline will feel it!
