🧫 Exploring cellular adaptation under mechanical stress in "In Vitro Experimental and Numerical Simulation Study on the Influence of Uniaxial Cyclic Compression on Cytoskeletal Structure". 🥼 Authored by Lu Yu, Jingyi Jia, Tianyi Zhang, and Yifei Yao. 🔬 A programmable system was developed to apply uniaxial cyclic compression (100 ± 50 Pa) to myoblasts. Under cyclic loading (most prominently at 0.25 Hz), actin orientation was reversed with reduced membrane principal strain and cell death. Strong correlations were observed between actin orientation and average/peak membrane strain (r=0.96/0.94; p<0.05), indicating cytoprotection. In this new paper, led by Jithin George (congratulations!), we examine the problem of interpreting electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. This technique is widely used in different fields, and analysis typically involves a heuristic approach, where one first guesses circuit models and then interprets fitted results in terms of circuit elements. We develop a framework to understand EIS data using fundamental principles of complex analysis, where the presence/absence of non-ideal capacitors and inductors is verified independently of the equivalent circuit models. Using experimental and synthetic data, we address the problem of identifiability and nonuniqueness of circuit models in EIS. https://lnkd.in/g9CzPpC4
