Gunnar Bell reposted thisIt is truly remarkable to think how much and how fast things can change. Even for me, it’s hard to fathom how in 2017 I was given months to live with a terminal illness. By 2018, I found myself trapped in my own body suffering from locked-in syndrome. In 2019, with the support of the incredible medical teams at Massachusetts General Hospital, MGB, and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, I was "lucky" enough to be nonverbal and paralyzed. At this point, after everything I had been through, most people would understandably be thankful just to be alive. There is no medical precedent or rational reason to think I should have survived my terminal illness, much less have the miraculous recovery journey I've experienced these past few years. And yet, this week I joined my team at Ahoi! as we began the Techstars Boston Accelerator program. These first few days have already been incredibly valuable as we work to make Ahoi an unparalleled accessibility solution. Ahoi! is an accessibility-focused app that helps users find places that cater to their specific needs. It's inspiring to see that individuals like Jake, Chris, and Scott share the same vision we have at Biogrip Tech. We believe that this alignment is crucial for building an inclusive world. Gunnar Bell liked thisGunnar Bell liked thisI want to share a bad experience I'm having with Wise, since I feel frustrated and powerless at the moment. Wise lost a $2500 transfer of mine (from my USD Wise balance to my US bank), continually dropped the ball on trying to trace it over 6 months, ultimately blamed me for the loss, and finally stopped responding to my emails. I will write up a report for the ombudsman, but I believe that Wise should take responsibility for sending the transfer incorrectly and reimburse me. In the meantime I'm wary of continuing to use the product and considering other solutions. Kristo Käärmann Thomas Adamski Steve Naudé I know this is peanuts to Wise, but it's a big deal for me. I would really appreciate Wise's cooperation in resolving this. An error in a transfer is understandable--it's Wise's unresponsiveness that makes me feel helpless. #banking #customerservice #business #finance #customerexperience

I thought this was a good and very reasonable talk by Eleanor Millman on how to prioritize projects for a platform engineering team: https://lnkd.in/gaYtUHRH A few insights I took from it: - Unlike product features which can be more directly tied to revenue, platform engineering work is a couple steps removed. But that doesn't mean it's unimportant! Far from it, platform engineering projects can make everyone at the company more efficient, able to produce higher quality software, etc. - While "urgency" is always going to be a factor, you don't want to just be putting out fires, you want be able to prioritize work which is "high impact" ... even if that impact isn't felt immediately. - Good rule of thumb: prioritize "highest impact for lowest effort". - The talk has some ideas on what factors to choose for impact, and how to blend them. For instance "speed of development" is one factor, "cloud cost optimization" might be another. The weighting of different impact factors can change over time, depending on the needs of the business. I would say that a lot of companies don't have much methodology here but I can really see the value in codifying it. You can always change the methodology or the weighting if it's spitting out results that don't pass the smell test or you really feel it is leading the company astray. Clarity can give the org more freedom to put resources behind projects that would otherwise never be taken on. When things are unclear, prioritization still happens implicitly, but the decisions tend to be a lot more random and fear-based and the org is worse off as a result.
