Here’s something most people in automotive won’t say out loud: Dealerships don’t fail because of the market. They fail because leadership tolerates mediocrity. You can have: A $50M facility. A premium badge on the building. Plenty of traffic. OEM incentives. And still lose. Why? Because culture is not built in meetings. It’s built on the floor. It’s built in: • The tone a manager uses at the desk • The standards that are enforced (or ignored) • The accountability after a missed target • The way leadership responds when things get uncomfortable Average stores manage deals. Elite stores develop people. Average leaders react emotionally. Elite leaders create structure, consistency and clarity...especially when pressure hits. Here’s the uncomfortable truth: When a store underperforms for years, it’s rarely a talent problem. It’s a standards problem. And standards are set at the top. Luxury brands demand elite execution. But elite execution only happens when leadership is aligned, present, disciplined, and unafraid to raise the bar. The market exposes weak leadership. It never creates it.
