Early in an SDR role, it’s easy to focus on trying to book first-call meetings and underestimate how much follow-up matters. The best SDRs are incredibly organized and disciplined about tracking follow-ups. Anyone who shows interest should be tracked, whether that’s a request for more info or a simple “follow up with me in three months.” A lot of strong SDRs can land first-call closes, but what really separates top performers from average ones is the steady flow of meetings they book from people they didn’t close right away. They stay persistent across phone, email, and other channels until the timing is right. I might be a bit old-school, but I still use Google Sheets and I’m very detailed with it. I write everything down. If you spoke to someone at 3:45 on a Tuesday, note it. That might be a time they’re usually free and gives you a smarter window to follow up the next week for example. Don’t send one email and move on. When you follow up, always circle back to their challenge and how your solution helps address it. Follow-ups without value don’t work. Space them out so you’re not pestering, but stay consistent. If you track your follow-ups well, you’ll be surprised how quickly you build a steady pipeline of interested prospects and how many of them eventually convert. The work is worth it, especially when you’ve already done the hard part with that first conversation.

SDR leaders - What do you do when you speak with a candidate that has the unteachables that all good hires have but might be too green for the role you are hiring for? Why “More Dials” Won’t Move Your Pipeline (And What Actually Does) “Just make more calls.” It’s the most common SDR advice out there and usually the least effective. Here’s what too many teams get wrong: 100+ dials a day means nothing if your message, target list, or process isn’t sharp. You don’t fix weak outreach by adding more brute force. 💡 If you aren’t booking meetings at 100 dials/day… 200 or 300 isn’t going to change the outcome. it’ll just burn your team out. Here’s what actually turns activity into revenue: Rebuilt talk tracks for relevance (not just repetition) Nailed down ICP so every call has a purpose Fixed objection handling, genuine answers, not just scripts Focus on call quality, not just call count Same number of dials. Way higher conversions. Quota isn't just a goal its a habit. My philosophy: 🚫 More dials do not create pipeline 🚫 More calls do not create skill 🚫 More pressure does not create performance But: ✅ Better conversations create pipeline ✅ Better psychology develops skill ✅ Better coaching drives performance ✅ Better systems turn effort into outcomes Outbound is not a factory it’s a craft.
