Databento is challenging that foundation, and today they’ve closed a $97M Series B. We’re proud to continue the journey with founder and CEO, Christina Qi, and the team as they reach this milestone. When Christina set out to build Databento, the problem she identified wasn't subtle. Market data was locked behind high costs, rigid contracts, and legacy systems that limited who could access it and how it could be used. She built a different path from the ground up: a pay-as-you-go infrastructure delivering institutional-quality data to traders, researchers, and developers without the institutional overhead. That vision has translated into remarkable execution. Today, Databento serves more than 60,000 customers, has become a trusted data provider for financial institutions, fintech companies, and AI labs, and has achieved 97% enterprise retention while building a profitable business. The ability to recognize when an entire industry has quietly accepted the wrong model and then build the alternative with precision and conviction is exactly what we look for in a founder. Christina has demonstrated that from the beginning. Congratulations to Christina and the entire Databento team on this milestone. We're excited for what's ahead.

Fin Q. reposted thisFin Q. reposted thisEveryone's racing to build agent loops that keep going. The real edge is building agents that know when they're right. That's the case our Head of Platform Engineering, Chuck Danielsson, makes in our latest Signals piece. Letting an AI agent run (and spend tokens!) is the easy part. The hard part, and the part most teams skip, is defining what the agent is actually checking for. What counts as done? What counts as better? What counts as a regression? Skip that, and you don't have a system. You have an expensive agent guessing. It's a harder problem than it sounds. In software, an agent can run the tests and check the build. In a real business, the rules live in chat threads, out-of-date dashboards, process docs, and people's heads. None of it is written down where an agent can use it. That's the gap our work on the AI One Agent Ontology Service is meant to close: map that context once, so agents start from what's already known instead of relearning the business on every run.
