They’re teaching Google and AI about your business: - What the business actually does - Which services they are known for - What problems they solve - Why customers recommend them Look at the example from Gemini below. A lot of the specific details it highlights are summarized directly from customer reviews on Google Maps. So when you ask for a review, encourage customers to naturally mention: - The service they received - The problem you solved - What made the experience great The more specific and detailed your reviews are, the easier it is for Google and AI to understand your business and confidently recommend it. So, make sure you are consistently getting new and detailed reviews. Reviews were already incredibly valuable for your business, and AI is making them even more important.

Google's seen a HUGE spike in AI Mode citations and is now aggressively linking to GB profiles + Product Cards: Author's Note: To get tips like this directly to your inbox, check out the newsletter in my bio. This was an interesting data study from Davis McCain at Profound and shared by Mark Williams-Cook in the Core Updates newsletter. In this study, he analyzed AI Mode citations between April - June. It looks like around mid-May, Google started linking to A LOT more Google owned properties. The majority of the lift comes from two different properties: Google Business Profiles + Product Cards. The data showed that the URL paths that were impacted the most sere /searchviewer/ and /search which is where those two directories live. And the study doesn't even accounts for YouTube - which I'm guessing would make Google owned the properties the undisputed citation source in AIO/AI Mode. We've seen this before with Google search and we knew it was coming to AI Mode. To compete in Google's ecosystem, you need to have your content completely integrated in their product suites.

So this was a great find from Barry Schwartz. In a recent podcast, Martin Splitt and John Mueller discussed the topic of AI generated content and the "Crawled - Currently Not Indexed" status designation. Paraphrasing John's words, he said if Google comes across content that's clearly AI-generated and doesn't add unique or valuable insights, then there's a chance that Google can just refuse to index the content. It might crawl to analyze but elect not to include it in the index. For years, the "Crawled - Currently Not Indexed" indexation status has had a lot to do with content quality IMO. For many sites, I've seen content with extremely thin pages get flagged with this status code. So this seems like a natural evolution of the intent of the status.

Eric Siemek liked thisEric Siemek liked thisThis is the downside of letting Google’s AI review filter make decisions without enough human context: I just watched a video from a dad asking Google to restore the reviews on his daughter's memorial, Hannah’s Daffodils. After losing his daughter, he planted 10,000 daffodils in her memory and created a pin on Google Maps so people could visit, leave messages, and help keep her memory alive. When people began leaving reviews, Google started removing them. But the reviews were not removed because people did anything wrong. They were likely caught by Google’s automated review filter, which was doing exactly what it is designed to do: - The reviews were coming from people all over the world who had not physically visited the location. - The memorial had only a handful of reviews, then suddenly received a large wave overnight. To an automated system, that can look suspicious. But this is the problem with relying too heavily on AI automation. It cannot always understand the human context behind the data it’s receiving. A memorial is not a business trying to manipulate its rating. It is a place where people are showing support, sharing love, and keeping someone’s memory alive. Thankfully, people rallied around this story. The video spread, more people learned about Hannah’s Daffodils, and the memorial now has 1,300 reviews and counting.

Author's Note: To get my top tips right to your inbox, check out the newsletter in my bio. So this is very interesting. I'm finally updating the Fan-Out Query studies for Nectiv this month. I have a talk with brightonSEO in September so wanted to see what the updates to GPT 5.6 + Gemini Flash 3.5 have done to the fan-outs. Lots of interesting insights. Well one of the most interesting finding is that ChatGPT will now officially search Reddit. This is the first time I've come across specific Reddit data within an extraction. I believe David Konitzny also saw something similar with a dataset he pulled as well. Some quick insights: 1. ChatGPT will search both broad "Reddit" searches against a prompt but also can search subreddits using "site:" search. 2. Current state, this is a very small number of fan-outs. There were only 17 found across a data set of 17K. That's a 0.1% representation in the data. However, now that we're seeing it, I would expect that to climb dramatically in the coming releases. 3. Gemini has integrated Reddit in it's fan-out queries for awhile now. It does at a larger rate, about 1.42% of fan-outs in this dataset. So there you have it. While small right now, if you're thinking long term, just another reason to start considering a Reddit strategy. Reddit is already by most accounts one of the top 1-3 sources in LLMs. Now we have LLMs directly searching against it.

If you want your content indexed faster by Brave, you can use their "Submit URL" tool: Author's Note: To get tips like this straight to your inbox, check out the newsletter in my bio. So this was a great tip that I saw from Damir Bilalov in one of my comments on Twitter. In a thread where I was talking about Ramp's strong Help Center / Documentation, he mentioned that you could submit URLs directly to Brave. Similar to Search Console, Brave has a "Submit URL" tool. You can go directly to it and push any URL you want to the index. That should have Anthropic/Claude see the changes faster. If you know your ICP uses Claude as the primary model, probably worth pushing updates to high priority pages through this tool. For ChatGPT, you're better off focusing on Google/Bing URL pushes.
