Two years of hard work, of endless phone calls, of sleepless nights, and hundreds of drawings and designs. Since being on site, two months to redesign a plan that we learned wouldn’t work. Two months of 12-14 hour days, 7 days a week. Two months of thousands of steps, of being sunburned and soaking wet on the same day. Of swinging bike barricade, lifting fence panels, relocating concrete ballast, and of measuring tents three times before installing them. And now, it’s two hours after the final whistle. Two hours after the final whistle of the start of the biggest World Cup ever, and of the largest, most ambitious opening ceremony ever. Two hours after the final whistle of Mexico vs South Africa (2-0), in my home country, in the most iconic stadium, where I got to sing Mexico’s national anthem with all my heart. And even though this is just the start of the tournament and we have 103 games to go until the final match in New York, I feel such a sense of pride and joy. I feel hopeful and thankful for all my teammates here and at other venues. I don’t know what comes next, but I sure hope that in two years I can look back at today and continue to feel the way that I feel right now.
