People often unknowingly use filler words such as “umm”, “uhh”, or “like” while giving presentations, and it would be good to make them more aware of how often they use these words.

This is a program that would analyze a given speech and count the number of filler words used, provided the filler words the program should look for in the speech. The goal of this project is to build a tool that could provide feedback to people as they try to improve their public speaking skills. -

Prior to this project, the process of sorting over 2000 Wellesley College students into their residence halls for the upcoming year was an entirely manual process that would take over 3 months from collecting student preferences, ranking them, sorting by hand, and then sending out result.
With our tool, students submit a Google form…Built a program to automate the Housing department’s process of sorting 2000 students into their residence halls for the following academic year.
Prior to this project, the process of sorting over 2000 Wellesley College students into their residence halls for the upcoming year was an entirely manual process that would take over 3 months from collecting student preferences, ranking them, sorting by hand, and then sending out result.
With our tool, students submit a Google form, staff in the housing department would download the form results in a csv file and feed it into our program and voilà! the sorting results will be available in less than 1 second. -

Revamping the housing lottery seemed a perfect fit with our newly acquired programming and data manipulation skills. Previously, Wellesley has used minimal technology in the process of sorting students into their residence halls for the following year. We found that many elements could be automated. This inspired us write a computer program to maximize the efficiency of all
parties involved.
Our program provides one solution to the existing system. Our proposed solution mostly impacts the administrative side by removing the need to manually sort roughly 2,300 pieces of paper, one for each student on campus. We also hope to make it more convenient for students to complete and submit their housing preferences online, instead of printing and delivering forms. This project has enabled us to experience working on a large scale project, communicating with a “client,” and applying the tools we have learned in the classroom thus far.
