Or, closer to Gartner's actual wording: 🧠 40% of enterprise apps will embed task-specific AI agents by the end of 2026 ❌ 40%+ of agentic AI projects will be canceled by the end of 2027 How can both be true at once? Great question. Our short answer: cause it's not about model capability. Just look at the 3 cancellation reasons Gartner listed: escalating costs, unclear business value, and inadequate risk controls. They tell us that the problem is not the agent itself, but the operating model around it. Guess it's a good thing that building operating models for shared infrastructure happens to be what platform engineering does for a living, right? 😉 We actually bet that much of Gartner's predicted 2027 cull is avoidable, and survival odds are higher if you treat agents as production workloads from day one. SoftwarePlaza wrote up a cool article about the cluster sprawl problem and how we help solve it, so we're about as biased as it gets here. But bragging aside, they covered a real problem well: run enough clusters across cloud, on-prem, and edge and the sprawl consequences start to creep in. More often than not, clusters quietly drift out of sync, until a config that matched last quarter doesn't, an upgrade lands in staging but never prod, and a break leaves you hunting for which cluster behaved differently. Ed Bartholomew liked thisEd Bartholomew liked thisI spent last week at the 2026 Army Summit hosted by Potomac Officers Club, and one thing came up over and over: the Army is moving away from proprietary, locked-down systems. One Army network leader said it directly from the stage: “Proprietary is not part of the future.” That line stuck with me because it matched a lot of what was said throughout the event. The Army wants software to move faster, hardware to be more flexible, and new capabilities to plug in in days, not months. That is MOSA in practical terms. It is easy for MOSA to sound like another acquisition acronym, but the conversations last week made it feel a lot more real. The point is not theory. It is whether teams can actually swap models, inferencing layers, or hardware without rebuilding and recertifying everything underneath the stack. That matters from the data center to the drone. I dug into this more with Anthony Newman and Nolan S. last week. Most consumer GPUs are limited by VRAM: • RTX 4090 → 24GB • RTX 5090 → 32GB • Ryzen AI Max+ 395 → 110GB usable for AI inference That means models previously requiring expensive multi-GPU setups can now run on a desktop-sized machine. 🏗️ What changed? Traditional PCs separate CPU memory and GPU memory. AMD unified them. Result: → Larger models fit locally → Less data movement → Better inference performance → Lower infrastructure costs In testing, the system reportedly delivered over 3× faster DeepSeek R1 inference than an RTX 5080 in certain workloads. 💰 The bigger story isn’t the hardware. The post introduces a different approach: separating what developers configure from what platform teams implement and control.
