Edgardo Ramirez liked thisEdgardo Ramirez liked thisThis past May, I graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a Master of Science in Engineering and Technology Management, marking an important milestone in my academic and professional journey. Alongside my master’s degree, I also had the opportunity to complete four additional credentials that strengthened my foundation in process improvement, analytics, manufacturing, and project leadership: • Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification • Six Sigma Black Belt Graduate Certificate • Data Science Graduate Certificate • Lean Certification in Manufacturing and Management Together, these five achievements reflect the direction I want to continue pursuing: combining engineering, data analytics, continuous improvement, and project management to solve complex operational challenges and improve organizational performance. I am especially grateful to my professors and mentors Beth Hegab, Jason Howell, Jun-Ing Ker (Jiunn-Ing Ke), Abdur Rahman, Mary Fendley at Louisiana Tech University for their guidance, support, and the knowledge they shared throughout the program. I also want to thank my classmates, colleagues, friends, and family for being part of this journey. Edgardo Ramirez liked thisEdgardo Ramirez liked thisBittersweet update today. Today was my last day with Packsize. Over the last 8+ years at Packsize, the company has dramatically changed and grown. I have had the fortunate opportunity to work with great leaders who truly believed in me and supported me through my journey. I will be forever grateful for the time spent with the company, the lessons learned, the teams we created, machines we developed, and the opportunity to contribute to what Packsize is today. I am confident in where the business is globally. We have great momentum in Europe and the US and I believe the company is pointed in the right direction. I have to thank Brent Cowan, Rod Gallaway, and David Lockwood who believed in me and gave me opportunities to develop. There are many other leaders, colleagues, and team members who I will miss and have deep respect for. The people at Packsize are what makes Packsize great. I have taken a position with Walmart within Vik Gopalakrishnan's team as VP, FC Automation Engineering, and my family and I will be relocating to Bentonville in the coming weeks. Many of the highlights of my career so far have come when working with Walmart and I am excited to join the team and get to work!

Shop has been around 55 years, brand loyalty is strong because the machines they bought 50,40,30 years ago made them who they are today. They bought a new brake last year from this same brand, upsold on hydraulic clamping, 6 axis backgauge, hydraulic crowning block (wild considering the rest of the build) all kinds of add ons, and the customer went with it, because they trusted the company. Here’s why it’s an issue They have one set of tooling An 84 degree punch and a 4 way die, both non sectionalized. They do exactly ZERO tooling changes per shift. The $300,000 brake came in and automatically had cylinder issues and the crowning system was installed backwards…. It took 13 months to fix, and the customer was treated like an inconvenience the whole time. Salespeople and large companies that take advantage of smaller companies, and the trust they give are the worst kind of people. When you are buying equipment PLEASE do your due diligence and check your rep. I’ll take a customer that asks a million questions over a customer that asks none every day of the week. And if asking questions ticks off your sales rep, that’s really all you need to know about them…. #manufacturing #sales #fabrication

Earlier in my career, my role was largely focused on integrating systems that were already designed and built. Today, I’m part of something different. At Realtime, we are involved much earlier in the process, innovating, designing, and solving complex challenges from the ground up. Being able to contribute not just to automation, but to how products are actually built and scaled, has completely changed the way I approach engineering. This marks an exciting moment for Packsize as we transition manufacturing from Europe to North America. Louisville allows Packsize to further develop our North American infrastructure and better serve our growing customer base. We toured the new Experience Center, and I was able to share some of the excitement of what's to come in 2026! Spending time with our European team is always a pleasure, and it gives a perspective that is critical to the future success of Packsize. A special thanks to our European marketing team; Bas van Steenoven Janneke Eizema Hedde Biesma and Inês Pinheiro for all of their efforts as we continue to build the Packsize brand in the European #packaging space. And a huge kudos to Philipp Venjakob for putting together such a great event!

As of January 1st, the mandatory shift away from high-GWP refrigerants became reality. Too many estimators are still treating this as a minor spec change, assuming the new units cost roughly the same as the old R-410A models. They don't. We are seeing immediate equipment cost spikes of 10–15% across the board. But the equipment sticker price is only half the problem. The real danger to your margins lies in the "hidden" installation and compliance costs that standard mechanical takeoffs are completely missing. If you are using 2025 labor factors and tooling assumptions for 2026 HVAC projects, your bid is already underwater. I've toured many HVAC Manufacturing plants, like Calmac in 2018, which was subsequently bought by Trane. Their Ice Banks help chilled water plants reduce energy usage by producing ice at night when electricity is cheap and using it to cool facilities during the day when it's expensive. Data centers across the country use Ice Banks to reduce their consumption because cooling can account for 40 to 50% of their electrical usage. All made in a little factory in New Jersey.
