Drue Kataoka✨ shared this⚽️ On Sunday, more than a billion people will watch Spain and Argentina play for the #WorldCup. Almost all of us will only watch. I built #GoalFlow — a painting instrument for fans. Choose your country. Paint with its colors. The ink is a real-time fluid simulation: it blooms, swirls, and drifts like pigment in water, live in your browser, even on your phone. Every flag is a palette. Argentina paints in sky and gold. Japan in crimson and white. And if you can't choose, there's a mode that lets you paint with all nations' colors at once. When you're done, you decide: save your painting — or release it, and watch it dissolve back into the water. My belief has always been: creation over consumption. Drue Kataoka✨ shared thisWhat if you could paint with living ink? For twenty years I've painted with sumi ink, the discipline of the single stroke and the Zen empty mind. This month I built an instrument where the ink never dries. Thirteen modes, each one built from one of my paintings: the contour rings of Tree of Pascal, the loaded wing of Crane, the reef of Skies of Atlantis, the rising launch of UP, the writhing gaze of Medusa. 👉 A real fluid simulation, running on a phone — and every stroke still begins with the hand. I built it in a long conversation with Anthropic's Claude — a real-time Navier-Stokes fluid solver running on the phone's own GPU: thirteen simulations at sixty frames a second, each with its own physics, every frame a chain of shader passes — advect the ink, solve for pressure, add the vorticity that makes it curl. We spent hours refining what matters to me as a student of this 2000 year old art form: kasure, the dry-brush skip where the bristle outruns the ink. Nijimi, the bleed into wet paper. The vorticity — how ink curls without collapsing into the same spiral twice. How the deepest black tends to live at the torn edge of a stroke, rarely at its center. And last but not least: where the discipline should end, and the water should begin. The painting is never finished. That's the point. I made this billboard for OpenAI's #ReimaginedwithChatGPT Images campaign, on view beside Pérez Art Museum Miami. Swipe to look closer. 👆 It's a trompe l'oeil, built to reward the double take. The challenge was making the impossible feel real: the weight of paper, the curve of glass, the scale of a hand large enough to peel a building. My studio creates the Ambrosias, multi-layered reflective sculptures inspired by neural networks. This idea of revealing what lives beneath the surface is something I've chased for years. Sky Peel is connected to that instinct, on a billboard. Introducing, my piece for OpenAI's #ReimaginedwithChatGPT Images campaign, live now on a billboard in Miami near Pérez Art Museum Miami. It's called Sky Peel. My studio's roots are in Japanese sumi-e, ink on rice paper. Over the years that's evolved into work the Ambrosias, Cloud Islands and Magic Boxes. So "peeling back the world to reveal something underneath" is an idea I've been chasing for a long time. What I loved here was using #ChatGPTImages as a real creative collaborator, taking an ordinary Miami glass tower and pushing it somewhere surreal and playful. What I liked about this project is that it is all about sparking human imagination & finding wonder in the world right in front of us. While most recently OpenAI has been refocusing resources from visual AI to other areas, Google has been more than happy to step into the void. At Google I/O, they unveiled Gemini Omni Flash, an impressive multimodal "world model" with even loftier ambitions. Multimodality, combined with world model capabilities, means that it combines text, images, video, and audio inputs simultaneously to create highly realistic scenes with an advanced understanding of real-world physics. So it does everything that Sora could do, and more. The fun part? You can completely edit specific parts of a video just by talking to it. To protect against deepfakes and abuse, every piece of content generated or modified with the Omni model (including its new digital AI avatars) will be invisibly watermarked with Google DeepMind’s SynthID technology. Drue Kataoka✨ shared thisSo, I had a conversation with Pablo Picasso and Steve Jobs in the south of France. Picasso was not asking whether AI could “make art.” He was asking whether AI could survive the violence of really seeing. Could it fracture a face the way Cubism fractured perspective? Could it hold multiple viewpoints in one image, not as a filter, but as a new spatial logic? Steve Jobs listened, then asked a different question. “What happens when a radical visual language becomes a tool millions of people can hold?” — OpenAI’s ChatGPT Images 2.0 was released to the public last week, and I had early access to test it and share feedback. Huge congratulations to the team. The release includes major improvements in text rendering, multilingual support, visual reasoning, instruction following, unusual aspect ratios and flexible image generation workflows. One of the formats that now works beautifully is the 360-degree panoramic image. The image below is an equirectangular panorama designed for VR viewing: #Picasso, #SteveJobs, and me seated in the South of France, in a conversation across eras about form, tools, authorship, taste, and technological rupture. To display it, I used #Codex to vibe-code a simple 360 viewer with controls for speed, zoom, and navigation. What excites me is that the image becomes a space, a scene you can enter and a conversation you can orbit. It’s kinda like a thought experiment made experiential. Picasso helped invent a way of seeing that collapsed time, angle, and perspective into a single plane. Jobs helped turn aesthetic judgment into human-scale technology. With AI can we push ourselves to do both at once?

I'm honored to stand with: 200 fellow women founders, with Over $1 Billion in venture capital raised. I'm excited to share the Drue Kataoka Studios story. As a woman-led startup, I started my art studio from nothing and today ship art to collectors in over 30 countries working in both atoms and bits, fabricating complex sculptures and also leading in technology art in VR, AI, EEG and deep science collaborations in space. When Erika asked for my quote, I shared: "My legacy is to create immortal artworks, that, like time capsules into the future, far outlive us. Given the trajectory of AI advancement, my art is designed with both a biological and non-biological intelligence in mind." I have long believed that art can function as a message across time. Now, with AI accelerating so rapidly, the audience for that message may be expanding in ways we are only beginning to understand. A crash zoom at the moment of impact. A drone pull-back that reveals the scale of an ancient city. A slow orbit around a prophet standing alone in the desert. The prompt is the easy part. Knowing which movement to call, and how to describe it so the AI actually delivers it, is what separates cinema from a slideshow. So we wrote it all down. Every camera movement we use inside Pray Production Studio. 46 of them. 7 categories. Pans, zooms, dollies, drone moves, human camera, specials. Each one explained in plain language with a universal prompt you can copy and paste into any AI video tool. Not just ours. This took us thousands of generations to learn. In 2021, I helped spear-head a fundraiser for India Covid Relief. HOPE is based out of Cork, Ireland, with operations in Kolkata (Calcutta) India. The NGO provides homes, an education, clothing, food, and healthcare for the poorest and most abandoned children of India, and offers job training and rehabilitation for adults, as well.
