Donny Badamo shared thisToday’s rabbit hole: can Perplexity's new browser, Comet, actually do something for me? I really like tools that I can spend hours with to save minutes. Not kidding, the potential upside of these excite me and fuel my curiosity. So, I looked through my todo list (shoutout Todoist) and found “change booking link on website” - a quick task I’d been putting off for my website, DonnyBadamo.com. 𝘐𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘱𝘭𝘰𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘤 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘺 𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘦? → 𝘕𝘰. 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘐 𝘣𝘦 𝘨𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘯 𝘎𝘰𝘰𝘨𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘺𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘴 𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵? → 𝘈𝘣𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘺. So, I started typing to the Comet assistant: “I just changed my booking link, I need to you fix it go to GitHub...” After no time at all (29 minutes and 4 seconds) crafting different prompts and waiting nervously, Comet was able to: - Go to GitHub - Find the repo - Find the file - Update the link - Commit and push - Go to CloudFlare - Check the deployment worked - Open my website - Scroll to the bottom - Check the link Slower than if I had done it? Sure, 100%. But, now my browser is just as efficient as me when I was an intern. Want help setting it up? Comment or DM me 🙂

It’s easy to tell when something is written by an LLM, it’s articulate, but stiff, like a well-dressed mannequin. Just scroll down a bit and you'll see it: posts with 𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐛𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠, emojis (🤯🧠✅) aplenty, and 200 robotic words. At work? It’s decks with 15 slides of vague nothingness. This is "workslop" and it’s all around us. I get the appeal. You're telling me I can ask Claude to write everything while I go eat some Cheez-Its and play some chess? ((𝘴𝘦𝘦, 𝘢𝘯 𝘓𝘓𝘔 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥𝘯'𝘵 𝘸𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵'𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘮𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘭𝘬𝘴)) Using AI isn’t the big problem, it’s outsourcing your thinking that leads to failure. You lose critical thinking capability, become unable to defend ideas, and erode your credibility. It’s also bad for business. A Harvard Business Review study found 41% of workers encountered “workslop” last month, costing 2 hours of rework per instance. That's $9M annually for a 10,000-person company. The fix? Keep yourself in the loop. Use LLMs to: - Challenge your logic: "What am I missing?" - Brainstorm scaffolding you’ll update - Speed up (not replace) research But don’t use LLMs to do everything for you, that’s how we collectively lose our ability to do anything. ---- What about you all? Donny Badamo shared thisMy grandpa got scammed the other day. He booked a lovely hotel at a great price. Looking into it the price was real, the reviews were real, but the hotel? Not so much… So I did what any reasonable grandson would do: I built an AI travel agent I dubbed BadamOLD. - Azure OpenAI (chat + voice) - MCP servers (hotel scraping) - Billboard-sized fonts (astigmatism) - Python (holding it together with duct tape) It’s basically a travel booking solution that someone who can use WhatsApp can figure out no problem. Excited to show my grandma I gave her a call, before I could get into it she said, “You know, Donny, I was trying to book a doctor’s appointment through some AI robot and I was so frustrated. I really don’t like this AI nonsense….” SO BadamOLD v1 might stay in the family GitHub repo for a while, but I learned a valuable lesson: Next time, I'm starting with user interviews instead of Claude Code.

Donny Badamo shared thisTo those affected by recent layoffs (including myself), It’s weird that something so incredibly personal can end in such an impersonal manner at a moment’s notice. But that’s where we find ourselves, Anyway, I was (and several incredibly qualified, smart, and chill peers were) let go from Microsoft earlier this week. Not knowing how this works or what to do, I wanted somewhere where I could learn all the facts about what I’m able to do and how I’m able to do it in reference to the recent ‘role elimination’ - so I made a Claude chat to ask questions to. You can do this with any LLM really, but I chose Claude because they’re the best (Anthropic - please give me a job). So I made a guide so that other folks are able to figure out the hell to do. The idea came from a gap I kept running into: free tools did not have all of the features I wanted, while many of the more capable tools were not private or local-only in the way I wanted. For anyone less familiar with Markdown: it is a simple plain-text format for writing structured content like headings, lists, links, tables, notes, documentation, and specs without being locked into a heavy word processor. Markdown has become even more important in the LLM era. It is one of the most natural formats for prompts, model responses, technical docs, and AI-assisted coding workflow. It is readable as plain text while still carrying useful structure. Donny Badamo liked thisDonny Badamo liked thisThe next leap in AI isn’t Intelligence. It’s Context. More often than not the frontier models fail (in their application) because the model doesn't have enough of the right context in view. This is why #subquadratic is worth watching. Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and other frontier models are incredibly powerful general-purpose systems. But in many real enterprise and engineering use cases, the hard part is not generating a good answer from a clean prompt. The hard part is reasoning across the whole "mess": full codebases, long project histories, contracts, policies, tickets, requirements, logs, agent memory files... the list goes on... In the past, we've often worked around that with Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG), chunking, summaries, and orchestration. Those patterns are useful, but they also create failure points. The right detail can get retrieved without its surrounding logic, compressed out of a summary, or missed entirely. #SubQ is exciting because it attacks that problem directly: long-context reasoning as a core capability, not an afterthought. I would not frame this as “SubQ will replace Claude or ChatGPT.” The better framing is: Use those frontier models when you need broad, polished, general-purpose reasoning. Use something like SubQ when the real bottleneck is context scale. That distinction feels important. The next major leap in applied AI may not come only from models that are marginally smarter -- even on shorter prompts. It may come from systems that can hold more of the real problem in context at once. Donny Badamo reacted on thisDonny Badamo reacted on thisSO excited to announce that I grated with a Masters of Science in Integrated Design, Business, and Technology at the University of Southern California - USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy! This was my first time walking at graduation. In high school, I was a terrible student. I rarely turned in my assignments and skipped school so much that I had a truancy record. It's not that I wasn't smart — I always aced my tests — but the U.S. education system isn't built for people like me. People who learn by doing, who need to be constantly challenged, and who need an abundance of different subjects to stay engaged. In short, I was bored. So, at 16, I tested out and went straight to community college. I went on to graduate early with my bachelor’s as well, but unfortunately it was during COVID, so I didn’t get to walk then either. 🤷♀️ Looking back at the challenges I faced back then, it makes me even more grateful that I found a program at USC Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy that allowed me to be myself. Not only was it interdisciplinary, so I wasn’t pigeonholed into one subject, but the academy focuses on challenge-based learning. Students learn by doing — building, taking risks, and even creating their own tech startups. Gone were the days of redundant busywork and exams. Would I get my Masters full time while working full time at Microsoft again? Considering I’ve been sleep-deprived for the past two years… no. But I would always recommend this program to anyone who has a similar story to mine — innovators, creators, and those who can’t be confined by the limits of traditional education. So grateful to Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine for creating a one-of-a-kind program; to my grandparents, who risked everything to give our family a chance at a better life and access to education; and to my mom, the first in our family to earn a graduate degree, for showing me the power of being a strong, educated, and independent woman.

To say this has been the ride of a lifetime is an understatement. I started at Partiful a year out of college. I'd tell people I was working on a party app and they'd support me with caution... everyone has an opinion on consumer social, and most of those opinions are "don't." Yes, the odds are brutal, the playbook doesn't exist, and the graveyard is crowded. But I'm so glad I took the risk anyway. I got to work on every major product launch we've shipped, partnered with everyone from underground rave organizers to big brand activations, and somehow made lookalike contests a thing (apologies). Watching something we built show up in how people actually gather, everywhere, is something I'll never take for granted. What's so special about Partiful — and about working on a product people genuinely love — is that community becomes your friends sending you every meme where Partiful gets a mention, hosts texting you screenshots, strangers giving you feedback. Community becomes the small and big ways people show up for what you're building without ever being asked, and watching the way people have shown up for Partiful over the last few years has been one of the coolest experiences of my life. Shreya and Joy, thank you for believing in me from day one. You taught me that when everything's stacked against you, conviction is the only thing that matters. To the team: I'm leaving confident you'll keep building the product that defines how a generation gathers. Every good party has to end eventually. More soon on what's next. And to everyone who's been part of this ride: thank you endlessly 🫶

I leave with deep gratitude for the leaders who shaped my journey — Gunnar Podlesak, Lewis Curtis, Michael Harper, Sarah Mocke, Karen Bergin, and Kathleen Hogan — each of whom challenged me, supported me, and expanded my capacity to lead meaningful, mission‑driven work. I’m equally grateful for the incredible teammates who stood shoulder‑to‑shoulder with me in the Microsoft Disaster Response (MSDR) program — Cameron Birge, Edna Cooper, Nupur Lalchandani, Caty Rengifo Botero, Terra Suddarth, Ling (Crossing) Wang, Tara O'Shea, Melinda George, S. Neil Anderson, and Nicholas Cummings. Together, we helped communities navigate their hardest moments and made the world a little better, one deployment, one partnership, one innovation at a time. What began as break‑fix solutions when Hurricane Sandy hit in 2012 evolved into large‑scale cloud migrations and ultimately into numerous AI deployments that modernized how we support communities around the world. My deepest thanks to everyone who worked tirelessly in service of the MSDR mission — your dedication and unwavering commitment to creating profound purpose made this work possible.
