More discovery happens inside social feeds, where every minute spent scrolling is a minute not generating open-web inventory.” For years, the conversation has focused on AI search and zero-click results. Those matter. But they're only part of the story. The bigger shift is behavioral. Search created page views. Social creates engagement. That distinction matters because page views generate open-web inventory. Engagement generates platform inventory. There’s been a lot written recently about OpenPath and what we're trying to achieve with it at The Trade Desk. Healthy debate is important — but a few clarifications may help ground the conversation in facts. OpenPath isn’t inventory curation: It’s not a marketplace — it’s a supply path. Think of it less like a shopping mall and more like the road you take to get there. Buyers retain full control over what they buy and complete transparency over where it runs. It isn’t a “black box.”: Transparency has always been core to The Trade Desk. Users of TTD have always had access to log-level, impression-based reporting and can see exactly where their investment goes.. if you're not getting this from your DSP, ask them what they're hiding! OpenPath is simply a direct path to premium publishers — including partners like Spotify and Foxtel — with full visibility intact. There are no hidden fees or margins: OpenPath operates on a small, flat % support fee to maintain the service, regardless of transaction type. It’s predictable and transparent, unlike many other supply alternatives. Importantly, this cost is borne by publishers, not advertisers. No one is required to use it... but it works!: Advertisers opt in or out. Publishers opt in or out. Our platform optimises toward performance. If OpenPath continues to grow, it’s because more direct, signal-rich supply paths are performing better than non transparent, obfuscated, signal poor paths. We build the optionality and shine a light on what's working, then leave it to buyers to make the choice. It’s not designed to replace SSPs (and we're not getting into the supply side business): We don’t run auctions or manage publisher yield. SSPs play an important role in the ecosystem. OpenPath simply provides another high-integrity, highly performant path that plugs into the header and competes on merit. Transparency, performance and optionality matter.
