Before the age of 30, she had already worked for the White House, gotten a dual degrees in public administration from Harvard and business from Stanford…and worked for Google. But more than her name-brand accomplishments, she deeply and truly cared—about the biggest problems facing our society like criminal justice and economic opportunity to the littlest things—whether she should invite every single person she could think of to her birthday parties (so that no one was left out!). Cancer deeply and truly sucks for taking Erica from us too soon. Today would have been her 35th birthday and I miss her and her optimism so so much. The foundation Erica’s parents started, the Erica Pincus Arabesque Foundation, is offering to help nonprofit organizations turn promising ideas into action with $1,000–$5,000 grants. They are looking for innovative projects that strengthen communities, expand civic engagement, solve everyday challenges, and inspire positive change. If your 501(c)(3) organization has an idea that could make a difference but needs a spark to get started, you should apply. I hope some folks in my LinkedIn network share some of the care and optimism that she had because I could stand to see a little more Erica in this world. One thing I’m increasingly focused on is how technology is actually helping - or not helping - businesses manage the process. I’m supporting an early-stage research effort exploring how technology can better support businesses without in-house compliance or capture teams. They are focused on listening to SMB owners about what tools they use today, what works, and where things still break down. No pitch. No sales. Just your time and insight to help put SMBs back in the center. To alleviate the load on my husband, we occasionally utilize a 24/7 medical transport service. We call or use an app—typically call—to schedule service. We speak to a real, live, human person, and tell them multiple times that she'll need assistance door-to-door. Sometimes, a different, real, live, human person even calls the night before to confirm. 4:30 rolls around. Then 5am. Then 5:15. No one ever shows up. This has happened more times than I can count. What is going on?? That's not a rhetorical question—does anyone have insight into why these 24/7 transportation companies whose main job is to, you know, transport people—fail at it so often? There must be something I'm not understanding. So, help me understand. Please. With that, an ask to my network: could you introduce me to any executives at non-emergency medical transport companies? Or the person at a health insurer who selects the medical transportation companies that come as a benefit? I'd love to understand more. Maybe even help. LaCroix shared this🎉 Congratulations to Prof. Alison LaCroix, who has been awarded the Littleton–Griswold Prize in American Law and Society by the American Historical Association for her book 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘶𝘮 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯. Described by the AHA as “gorgeously crafted and scrupulously researched,” the book introduces the concept of the interbellum constitution—a pivotal era from 1815–1865 that reshaped the boundaries of local, state, and federal power in the United States. The award was presented by Ben Vinson, president of the AHA, as part of the 2025 Awards for Scholarly and Professional Distinction.

Agentic AI on Amazon Bedrock AgentCore - adopted early in preview, layered in a skills-based pattern as it emerged, shipped to production in nine months against full HIPAA and audit constraints. The how is more interesting than the what. Worth a read if you're building in this space. 👇David D. LaCroix liked thisNine months ago, this started as a small inbound question about hospital transaction data. Today it's Prism — Bluesight's unified AI layer, live across 20 health systems, cutting compliance report generation by up to 97%. I got to work closely with Vijay Venkatesh and his team from the first conversation. What stuck with me wasn't the technology — it was watching them take a real bet. When we suggested building on Amazon Bedrock AgentCore just weeks after it launched in preview, they said yes. When we came back months later with a newer "skills" pattern for agents, they said yes again. That's not small in healthcare, where every decision has to hold up against HIPAA, audit trails, and hospitals that won't tolerate a black box. Two three-day sprints later: reports that took six hours now take fifteen minutes, triage that took three hours now takes ten, and work that typically takes 12-18 months shipped to production in nine. Vijay — thank you for betting on this early, pushing us to go further the second time, and treating it as a real partnership. Proud of what we built, and excited for where Prism goes next. David D. LaCroix reacted on thisDavid D. LaCroix reacted on thisA bit of a personal post today, reflecting on my 13th wedding anniversary yesterday. A lot of people ask me how I do it all. Yes, I have seven (young adult) kids that I raised while I was building my career. I've worked at some big, well known companies, some mid-stage high growth companies, and some start ups (some of which I've started up). I've written three books. I've traveled around the world, speaking and presenting. I still usually find time to garden. The truth is, I wouldn't be able to do all of this without an absolute rockstar of a partner. He picks up the things that I drop (or the things I don't even notice before they drop). He encourages me when I have doubts. He builds me up when things are going sideways. He celebrates my achievements (often more than I do). He doesn't equate my career successes or failures to my worth. He shares all of his own career achievements and struggles. Plus he's incredibly fun and thoughtful and a great dancer. Here's to finding your person, and to bringing out the best in each other. When you get it right, it's magic. David D. LaCroix liked thisDavid D. LaCroix liked thisAs we grow in our careers, we are counseled to get better at focus and efficiency. Often that means that we won’t sign up to learn things that don’t seem immediately useful or applicable. A few months before I joined the company that's now Posit PBC, I signed up for a Coursera course on R and statistics. I wasn't planning a career move into data science. I was between opportunities, taking meetings, trying to figure out what was next. The course was partly curiosity about online learning platforms, and partly a determination to learn more about statistics than what I got out of my lone stats course in college. The instructor encouraged us to install RStudio, and I resisted in favor of Emacs with ess-mode for the first 5 weeks, but in the final week of the course I tried it. Through a turn of fate I was introduced to JJ Allaire a week later. Two hours into the meeting, JJ asked me to run the company. Looking back it’s clear that if I hadn’t taken the course, I probably wouldn’t have had the context for an effective conversation with him. If I hadn’t followed that small thread of curiosity, I may never have been in the room. Steve Jobs beautifully described this phenomenon in his commencement speech about “connecting the dots”, but when I listened to that talk all those years ago, I didn’t appreciate it until this event. A lot of what people call strategic career moves are, on closer inspection, the downstream result of staying curious about something that didn't obviously matter at the time. For me, that course was a detour that turned into the position I still hold.
