David Parker liked thisDavid Parker liked thisSix months at Capital Electric already? Wild. Leaving a company (I spent half my life with) to start over was mildly terrifying and slightly unhinged. Turns out, it was also one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Since January, I’ve racked up an absurd number of airline miles, spent more nights in hotels than I’d like to admit, worked with incredible customers and system integrators across eight states, and somehow managed to make a career out of talking about automation all day. Dream job, honestly. The people are exceptional. The culture is the real deal. Leadership invests in its people. And every day, I’m reminded why I took the leap. Six months in, and somehow Capital Electric still lets me loose across the East Coast to talk automation and represent the company. Risky? Maybe. On this Father’s Day, I realize one of the greatest gifts I could ever receive is being able to call this extraordinary woman my wife. In that moment, he looked at me and said, "I'm proud of you." I was 44 years old. People often respond to that story with sympathy. I don't. It taught me that pursuing excellence is healthier than pursuing perfection. Perfection seeks approval. Excellence seeks growth. His words meant everything, but the journey taught me even more. This Father's Day, I'm grateful for both. Happy Father's Day to all the dads whose words and example shape us in ways we often don't recognize until years later.

A couple years ago I had the incredible honor of meeting Opal Lee, the activist known as the “Grandmother of Juneteenth”, whose decades of tireless advocacy led to Juneteenth becoming a federal holiday in 2021. We celebrated this milestone by dedicating a conference room in her honor and hosting a special event with our Black Professionals Employee Resource Network (BPERN), a moment that felt both historic and deeply personal. Holding her book Juneteenth: A Children’s Story alongside her, I was reminded that representation, persistence, and community matter. Ms. Lee didn’t stop fighting until the work was done and her legacy challenges all of us to ask: what are we doing to advance freedom and equity in our own spheres of influence? On this Juneteenth, I’m grateful for pioneers who paved the way, colleagues who show up with purpose, and organizations that create space to honor stories that shaped this nation. Happy Juneteenth! 🖤❤️🟢
