Dave Lovelace reposted thisDave Lovelace reposted thisA lot of infrastructure decisions get delayed because the current service still works. I get it. I mean, I'm usually about 3 iterations back from the latest iPhone, and I've needed a home water softener for years. But other pressing matters, money, and lack of time push these things to the back-burner until there's an actual problem. It's the same in business and government IT. No one's sitting around with extra budget, extra people, and extra time looking for another migration project. But sunset infrastructure has a nasty habit of becoming urgent all at once. Carriers retire copper services, platforms and hardware go EOS, contract renewal pricing suddenly skyrockets (not naming any names), golden fiber routes get snapped up by other orgs, and the list goes on. The problem? Now we've got to make a decision, FAST. And the conversation changes from "let's plan for this" to “how fast can we get something, anything in place?” For SLED organizations, this is the part I worry about most. Being forced to solve for time instead of strategy. The normal planning, budgeting, procurement, and approval cycles do not move at the same speed as infrastructure scarcity. So if you have services sitting on aging platforms, copper, legacy voice, old transport, unsupported hardware, or routes you know you’ll need later, don’t wait for the formal notice to start the plan. At that point, you'll have fewer options that may be more expensive, and less aligned to where you actually need to go. #PublicSectorIT #NetworkModernization #SLED #ITStrategy
