Dave Kwiatkowski reacted on thisDave Kwiatkowski reacted on thisI've got some news for you! As of last week, I've accepted the position of Vice President of Developer Relations at IBM. My existing team at Confluent will join the very talented group already in place at IBM to form what will eventually be one unified and world-class team focused on helping developers adopt and succeed with technologies across IBM's substantial portfolio. This will include Confluent's Data Streaming Platform (better known to the world as Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, Apache Iceberg, and more), IBM Automation products (better known as Terraform, Vault, and the gang), and of course AI, as both teams have already been doing. I am getting to know the leaders and mandates of a large team and even larger product portfolio, which means today isn't the day for me to publish some kind of manifesto about How Things Are Going To Be. That said, my approach to DevRel is knowable (link in bio, as they say—go read it about it you haven't yet), and you can trust me that I'll bring every bit of Confluent DevRel magic to the game that I possibly can. I'm excited to bring that vision to a whole new set of talented colleagues, backed by the resources of IBM, to “feed the soil” of developer growth, from discovery to advocacy, in a bigger and bolder ways than ever before.

Dave Kwiatkowski liked thisToday we're launching the new Intuned, and with it, Intuned Agent, an AI agent that builds and maintains browser automations for you. The backstory: we launched Intuned as a code-first platform for browser automation (scrapers, RPAs, and more). But the #1 ask from customers was always "can you just build and maintain these for us?" So we did, running a services motion alongside the product. Over the past year we processed 40M automation runs for a limited set of customers. It became one of the most loved parts of Intuned, and the thing we most wanted to replace with product. We spent a year+ trying... Nothing worked. Then we embedded Claude Code (via the Agent SDK). That's what finally unlocked it. Intuned Agent now builds complete projects in TypeScript or Python, validates them against live sites, and hands you code you own. When a site changes, self-healing detects it, diagnoses the failure, and writes the fix. Same outcome as "we'll do it for you," now available to everyone. Self-healing is where the agent and the platform come together most visibly, but it's just one way to use the agent. Self-healing in action 👇 and more links in the comments.

But lately, there’s this constant tension. When I’m focused on job hunting, I feel like I’m not being a good enough dad. When I’m with them, I feel like I’m falling behind. That tradeoff sucks. Weekdays are manageable. I can lock in while they’re at school. But weekends and holidays? That’s where it gets hard. So last weekend, I tried something simple. Instead of splitting my attention all day, I went all-in… in short bursts. 15 minutes of fully engaged, high-energy, no-phone play. Then we agree: they entertain themselves for a bit, and we repeat. This seems to work so far. They’re happier. I’m more focused. And the guilt is quieter. It also reminded me of something I’ve been learning lately. Constant context switching (whether with kids or even orchestrating AI agents) is exhausting. Being intentional with time beats trying to do everything at once. Curious how others handle this, especially when balancing family and something high-pressure. What’s worked for you?? #opentowork

Dave Kwiatkowski liked thisDave Kwiatkowski liked thisTwo weeks ago, I was laid off from Confluent. I’d managed to avoid it up until then — so it hit harder than I expected. But sitting around feeling bad about it isn’t really my style. You take the hit, learn what you can, and keep moving. Then I started cold applying. Even with 10 years of experience at large companies, it’s hard to stand out when roles get flooded within hours. You hit submit and it feels like your application just disappears into a black hole. So I’m playing this differently. 🤞 Less cold applying, more focus on warm leads — referrals, recruiters, and actually putting myself out there. That’s part of why I finally launched my portfolio site at https://phillipshim.dev/ Starting simple — first post is a throwback to something I wrote 8 years ago. Feels fitting.
