𝗪𝗵𝘆? - In the first few years of firm ownership, I used pricing as a way to slow down new client meetings because I was at capacity - More recently, my fees have gone up because the base level of services has increased in value - I'm trying to work with the specific client profile, clients who value a relationship with their tax pro 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀?? 𝗜𝗳 𝗻𝗼𝘁, 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗔𝗡𝗬𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝗽𝗮𝘆 𝟮 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝟭𝟬𝟰𝟬? - No, maybe 3 millionaires out of about 120 clients - I don't think anyone wants to pay $2,000 for a 1040 - It's how you sell what comes with that 1040 that makes the difference 𝗗𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗲𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗶𝗻𝗽𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆? - The $2k fee includes tax return prep, a video summary of their tax return, document storage, newsletter, year round access for quick questions and IRS notice assistance 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘂𝗯𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 $𝟮𝗸 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗺 𝗮𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵, 𝘀𝗮𝘆, $𝟭,𝟬𝟬𝟬, $𝟭,𝟱𝟬𝟬 𝗼𝗿 $𝟭,𝟴𝟬𝟬? - Depends on the package they select, but short answer, kinda 𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗿 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀? - Just new clients - But I have increased the fee for my “old” clients to a price point where I feel good about 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲—𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼𝘀, 𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗹, 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹? - Client who gets a >25% price increase gets an email before proposals go out explaining why 𝗗𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿, 𝗼𝗿 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀? - Yes, making more per hour is exactly why I've raised the rates - 4 lower paying clients are going to take more time and give you more headaches than 1 higher paying client - I cannot see why anyone would prefer to have 4X more clients 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘅 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝘁𝗮𝘅 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗺 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲? - It could be a “simple” 1040

Wright. This is our first year hosting in two markets in the same year. IGNITE is our student leadership conference where students are hand selected to attend and hear from our CEO, learn about our firm and the opportunities we have to offer, and dive deeper into the careers within accounting. This year we had 37 students from 19 different colleges and universities! We loved having them onsite and showing them why Dean Dorton is an amazing place to be. By day, Allison is a Tax Director at Dean Dorton and studied Accounting and Finance at UK. She originally became involved with Glean Kentucky through Erica while she was on her own health journey. She originally joined the finance committee and then when the previous treasurer became a Glean alumnus, Allison took over their seat. In her time on the board, she was able to help Glean weather the challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic and internal leadership changes. Allison's work towards accessible nutritious food extends past Glean Kentucky. When she was in Leadership Lexington, her group developed a project to make healthy eating more accessible through by connecting Lextran riders with transit-accessible sources of produce. She also works with her mother to develop new recipes for healthy produce. Allison's term is expiring and will be unable to continue on the board.
