Dan Katz liked thisDan Katz liked thisClaude is down. Imagine if your critical systems and workflows depend on just one AI provider, with no ability to easily switch to alternatives? This is too fragile for serious businesses yet Claude's reported uptime over last 90 days ranges from 99.11% to 99.93%. Those figures look high but 99.11% uptime over 90 days means you can't use the service for roughly 19 hours over that period. Best-in-class web/cloud services usually hit 4 nines i.e. 99.99%+, which means less than 13 mins of downtime over a 90 day period. For founders and businesses going all-in on AI, its worth thinking about resilience early. This means the ability to switch services/models quickly and/or degrade some features gracefully. For everyone else, before going all-in with one provider, consider the question of what happens when all your AI-dependent work hits an outage like the one we're seeing now.

Claude now lives inside your Slack channels, remembers context, follows conversations, can be assigned tasks, uses company tools, and even jumps into discussions on its own when it thinks something needs attention. In other words, it's starting to behave less like a chatbot and more like a teammate. The interesting part is how many startups just lost their reason to exist. Every few weeks Anthropic or OpenAI launches something that replaces an entire category of AI startups. First coding tools. Then research tools. Then agents. Now enterprise knowledge and collaboration. If your entire company is a feature on Anthropic's or OpenAI's roadmap... You might already be dead.

Dan Katz liked thisDan Katz liked this👉 Own! Your! Tools! ℹ️ Google today announced they would be retiring Gemini-CLI for Antigravity-CLI. And while that sounds like "whatever, who cares", it is a significant shift in itself. 💡 Gemini-CLI is an Open-Source project, with a community around it. The project has served as a foundation to several other Coding CLIs. There has been a team inside Google working on it. 🗓️ Last year, Google bought out half of Windsurf's staff. They built Antigravity, which is Googles Agentic Coding IDE. 🤬 And while Antigravity surely has its merits, it is PIA to be used - it consumes tons of memory and eats the CPU of my 128 GB M4 Max MacBook Pro, up to the point where the machine basically became unusable. 😵💫 The team responsible for this now handling the CLI-efforts of Google Coding Agents is troublesome to me. It just proves: You've got to own the tools and the harness. ⚡ Therefore, I urge you to check tools like OpenCode or pi.dev, even though they have flaws in themselves. Or combine them with a local Agent (ie. Hermes). And bring in the LLM of your personal choice, not an LLM bundled with the Harness. 🔥 Own your tools! Dan Katz liked thisDan Katz liked this3.6 million lines of code deleted. 10k added. Three months of “AI-powered” engineering rewritten in a week. AI made it easier to vibe code. It also made it easier to create disasters at scale. This is not because vibe-coding is fallacious. It’s what happens when people mistake prompting for software engineering. A lot of AI-first teams are shipping codebases built entirely on vibes: No architecture. No modularity. No separation of concerns. Just velocity until the system collapses under its own weight. The irony? You see more and more apps that never scale. When the codebase has structure, AI compounds leverage. When the codebase is chaos, AI just generates chaos faster. I have shipped and scaled entire platforms with much inferior models than OpenAI’s GPT 5.5 or Anthropic’s Opus 4.7. The bottleneck was never the model. It was always the fundamentals.

Curious: has anyone found a particular sub-agent role or setup that's been especially powerful? Would love to compare notes. I've been experimenting with Claude agent teams lately, and one thing stands out: the software paradigms we've always relied on (API design, test coverage, modularity) matter more when working with AI, not less. Giving each sub-agent a specific role (Team Lead, Frontend Dev, Backend Dev, QA Engineer) produced noticeably better results than asking one agent to do everything. Wrote up what I learned using a calculator app as the example. Link in the comments.
