Colby Williams liked thisColby Williams liked thisToday, I’m signing off from Microsoft after six years of building, scaling, and learning. I’m leaving with a deep sense of gratitude for the opportunity to build products from zero-to-one through global scale, alongside some of the most talented teams I’ve ever worked with. Looking back on 14+ years of my professional career, this chapter stands out for the sheer impact and the caliber of the people involved. To the product leadership team — Amanda K. Silver, Anthony Cangialosi, Gaurav Seth, Jay Schmelzer, Simon Calvert, and Varun Gupta: Thank you for the trust, the coaching, and the opportunities to tackle some of the most exciting challenges. To my brilliant PM peers — Denizhan Yigitbas, Dhruv Chand, Josh Zimmerman, Tanmayee Kamath, Taysser Gherfal, Varsha Iyer, and many others: Thank you for the jam sessions, the healthy debates, and the shared passion for our craft. Working alongside such a thoughtful group of product thinkers has been a true highlight. To the engineering leaders — Neeraja Singireddy, Varsha Gangu, Michael Stark, Trent Byfield, Colby Williams, and many others: Thank you for the partnership, the high standards, and for always pushing the boundaries of what we could deliver together. To all the other countless teammates and cross-functional partners — across user research, engineering, data science, marketing, business development, and our field teams: thank you for the collaboration, perspective, and partnership that helped translate ideas into real customer impact. I’m incredibly proud of the impact we delivered together and the products that developers love and enterprises trust. While I will miss the brilliant minds and the daily collaboration with such an incredible community, I am energized for what’s ahead. The best teams don’t treat agents like magic coworkers. They treat them like part of the engineering system. Adding an agent to your toolset doesn’t automatically make your team more effective you have to design for it. What infrastructure, prompts, MCPs/tools, and feedback loops make the agent actually useful in your workflow? This is why some teams are flying while others are struggling to see value. The key is to think about the whole system, understand what gets easier, what gets harder, and how your team adapts. Here’s a snapshot from the last month working on Aspire with the GitHub coding agent. The output is absolutely insane. #ai #codingagent #github #aspire

Colby Williams liked thisColby Williams liked thisHave you ever considered getting a tattoo? If not, I invite you to do so. Why? For me it was an act of presence. The process required me to get clear about what I wanted, to silence the fear and concern about what other people would think about me, and get comfortable with the possibility of making a mistake and regretting my decision. I first had the idea for a tattoo many months before I finally chose to get one. The main thing keeping me from getting it, was fear! And I’ve made a commitment to myself that fear is never a valid reason to do or not do something. I’m sure there’s other things you can do to accomplish something similar, but a tattoo in our culture is a highly effective tool.

I’ll be focused on leading product for the Docker runtime (Docker engine, docker CLI, ++)!!! Docker is a company I’ve long admired and containers are the coolest so I’m absolutely stoked. I feel so incredibly privileged to work on tech that has fundamentally changed the way I work. Super excited to keep making Docker amazing for developers!

I’m so grateful for everything I’ve learned working on the Azure DevEx team and I look forward to cheering my friends on from the sidelines. Working on the Azure Developer CLI has definitely been one of the highlights of my career so far. As for what's next, I'll be starting something new (and very exciting) next Monday!

Todays post continues my journey with GSD, but the LLM agent landscape is changing rapidly and this shooting star caught everyone’s eye. At its core, OpenClaw is a locally hosted, open-source AI assistant that runs on your computer or server. You talk to it through apps you probably already use, like WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, Slack, Signal, or even iMessage. And it really “does stuff” — sometimes too well. Hot take 🔥. Vanilla CSS still holds its ground, even with the rise of Tailwind CSS and other frameworks , especially from an AI-assisted development perspective. Why? AI can directly leverage the latest modern CSS capabilities, many of which are abstracted or limited by utility-first frameworks. Tools amplify fundamentals , they don’t replace them.
