Dawn Quesnel, CPCC, PCC liked thisDawn Quesnel, CPCC, PCC liked thisA toxic leader from my past resurfaced recently, Injecting their poison into the narrative like a politician who realises the audience has their own mind and must be manipulated to ensure the self-serving public perception they’ve manufactured remains intact. At first, I rolled my eyes. Then, I stepped back and observed the situation. You see, after two decades in leadership, I know toxic leaders live in an alternate reality, one where they’re 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 right. They believe they 𝒅𝒐𝒏’𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 blind spots. They believe the strength of their business acumen eclipses any people-leadership development area they might 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 have. Think of it as a get-out-of-jail-free card to avoid leading yourself effectively. Like a licence to break people in a system that only rewards business outcomes. So let’s be clear: toxic leaders have 𝐧𝐨𝐭 committed to doing inner work. Their internal world (often built around a mental narrative that career success qualifies them as worthy and enough in the absence of the love, attention, and nurturing they never received or received inconsistently in their formative years) leaves them unaware that their unconscious world is actually 𝒓𝒖𝒏𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒘. The days of believing we leave our inner world behind at the front door when we turn up at work are long gone. Inside and outside work you - have always been the same person. For those willing to commit, know that the inner work of a leader never ends. You evolve into the best version of yourself with every external trigger you repeatedly 𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒔𝒆 to respond to differently. Right now, I am reminded of why I do the work I do with leaders. 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 must come first; the 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 to change comes after. I’m here to create the former and hold you accountable for the latter. So the choice is yours. Which path will you choose?

To qualify for this honor, I achieved a semester GPA of 3.74 during spring 2026. I particularly enjoyed my classes this last semester and found the information I've learned to be invaluable.
