There is a quote I heard long ago that has always stayed with me, I think about this quote when it comes to work and life: “𝙒𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙢𝙮 𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙗𝙚 𝙢𝙮 𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙤𝙧 𝙢𝙮 𝙖𝙙𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝙩𝙤𝙙𝙖𝙮?” I think this captures the real challenge so many jobseekers face. Doubt. Fear. Comparison. Feeling behind. Feeling “too old,” “underqualified,” or “stuck.” These thoughts shape confidence and momentum more than any job board. So, I built a small tool to help with that. I had previously posted (𝗧𝗼𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝘆 𝗼𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁) that I was working on creating apps, this is one that is the product of that work. It is called the 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗿, and it helps people shift their thinking in a simple and practical way. You type in a negative job search thought. The tool gives you: 𝟭. 𝗔 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲 : A quick, healthier perspective you can hold on to. 𝟮. 𝗔𝗻 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲 More detail and insight if you want context and encouragement. 𝟯. 𝗔 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻 Practical steps you can take right now to move forward. My hope is that this tool helps people shift their mindset from adversary to ally. Sometimes all someone needs is a small nudge to see themselves differently and take the next step with confidence. I watched as diabetes stole her joy and independence due to its multiple complications, including near-blindness from diabetic retinal disease. Yet despite her personal suffering, she believed that the best way to heal ourselves was to do what we could to help others. I created and am leading MTM Vision (The Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative) as a way to honor Mary by doing what I can to keep her promise to ensure that future generations would not have to suffer as she had. We can make her dream of a world without vision loss from diabetes a reality.
