Number 7. The exploit is a race condition in Windows Defender that escalates to SYSTEM. Tested on Windows 11 (Official channel + Canary) and Windows 10 with the June 2026 patch installed. The PoC doesn't work on Windows Server because standard users can't mount ISO images, but Eclipse states all Server versions are vulnerable too with a redesigned exploit. Success rate varies by machine. Eclipse claims 100% on some, inconsistent on others, and believes a redesigned PoC could achieve reliable exploitation across the board. Banned from GitHub. Banned from GitLab. Microsoft account deleted. MSRC blog post with Digital Crimes Unit reference. Chris O’Brien 🦀 posted thisToday I published azurite-node-bindings on crates.io, which is a dependency free Rust wrapper around the azurite command line tool, unlike testcontainer_modules which requires docker (and has less options). The repo also has a nix flake exposing nixos modules for running nixos tests against azurite, which is what we are doing to test multi-machine interactions for ReaCloud, a redundant version storage control and cloud collaboration system for the REAPER digital audio workstation. https://lnkd.in/gC28m4Zy

You write one secretspec.toml that says what secrets your app needs, and providers (keyring, 1Password, Vault, AWS, dotenv, plain env vars, and more) supply the values per environment. Until now secretspec named every secret with its own convention. That is clean for a new project, but it ignores reality: most teams already have secrets living in a 1Password item, a Vault path, an AWS ARN. ref closes that gap. A secret can name one you already have, by the store's own coordinates: DATABASE_URL = { ref = { item = "db", field = "password" }, providers = ["prod_op"] } The design decision I am happiest with: the coordinate supplies naming only. Which store resolves it still follows the same routing as every other secret. So one declaration can resolve against production 1Password in prod and a local .env file in tests, with nothing about the secret changing except where it is read. It composes with fallback chains and with generators too. Reference a secret that does not exist yet and secretspec mints it and writes it back to those coordinates. https://lnkd.in/e9MgwDbg

I just landed a patch in Linux 7.2 that makes it significantly faster. While profiling caching code at Meta, I found an anti pattern, and fixed it. The results: throughput jumps 21–48% with latency dropping 17–33%. Sometimes the biggest wins come from revisiting the fundamentals. Chris O’Brien 🦀 reacted on thisChris O’Brien 🦀 reacted on thisThe other day, I received an email from a completely blind software engineer that completely changed my understanding of the impact of what I build. He pointed out that BIOS accessibility has been a huge problem for nearly 15 years, ever since specialized hardware like the PC Weasel became obsolete and screen readers simply didn't work at level 0. This is where USBridge-KVM 2.0 can change things. Because the device converts the pre-boot environment and BIOS into a real-time text stream over SSH, it theoretically bypasses these hardware limitations. My automation engine outputs a JSON stream of screen status, capturing both the text color and background color for each character. This structured JSON data could theoretically be used by modern screen readers to perfectly track the active focus in menus. The first thing I need to complete is configuring the device when the KVM screen is not visible. I plan to implement a screenless setup using a MicroSD card. Moving the config.yaml or .json file with network credentials to the SD card will allow the device to provision completely automatically. While this solves the critical accessibility issue, it also creates an ideal zero-touch provisioning (ZTP) feature for automated, screenless enterprise deployments. I'd be happy to chat and discuss ideas with accessibility experts, software engineers, or anyone interested in making Tier 0 hardware accessible again. This makes it relatively easy to write a compiler for this language, which is what I did. Baskell is a B compiler written in Haskell. It uses parser combinators and has a intermediate representation that gets translated to ARM Assembly. Not a single line of code was "vibe coded". Check it out: https://lnkd.in/gJmeqEHc Below is a B program that makes a ASCII mandelbrot set compiled with my compiler. Edit: I should've clarified, I don't know much about fractals. The mandelbrot set was a example B program written by someone else I used to test my compiler.

FOSS and OSI : A timely re-opening of ancient fault lines. The idea of the OSS permissive license represented a major inflection point in the trajectory of Open Source Software and opened the door wide for the pragmatist constituency to foster a closer relationship with industry and big tech. It worked. You could even say this was a successful hard fork. But time (and unintended consequences) have a habit of catching up with the bast laid plans. Now that OSS is deeply embedded into the fabric of our software infrastuctures, both public and private, and across all industry and business sectors, the time for reckoning seems to be at hand. As the interaction of functions and features that drive our digital world become increasingly complex and interwoven 🧩 , it would seem that there is no turning back the clock to a purely proprietary software environment, even though there may still be some who would advocate for just that. The advent of the commercial (good enough) LLMs may have temporarily tipped the scales back in favor of proprietary solutions but even in the domain of Gen AI, we are witnessing a strong impulse towards the development of alternative OSS models. The EU countries in particular are signalling a clear OSS by default intent. The investor backed corporate business models built around OSS clearly need a rethink but the OSS code itself, and the philosophy and methodology that produced it, is unlikely to become a historical relic.
