Fine.We are all human. I don't need to know you will be late because of a doctor's appointment, or you are leaving early to attend a personal matter.It's sad how we have infantilized the workplace so much, that employees feel the need to apologize for having personal lives. Jay) Dow ☁️ reacted on thisYesterday I celebrated my 50th birthday by running 50 kilometers — charting a course through places that have shaped my personal and professional life in San Francisco. Many thought it was a weird way to celebrate. Some even thought I was crazy. Honestly, I wasn’t sure I could finish. I’ve run marathons before — decades ago — but this would be the farthest I had ever run in my life. So yesterday at dawn, I set out with a small pack on my back, a lot of gratitude in my heart, and a manufactured belief that I could do this. I’m happy to report: I finished. And I’m more convinced than ever of the power of the human mind. As I enter this next chapter, I carry five reminders with me: • Set ambitious goals. My mother always said, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.” If you believe in yourself, what once seemed impossible becomes achievable. • Put in the daily work. Small, consistent progress compounds into big accomplishments. It prepares both your body and your mindset. • Push through the hard moments. Don’t focus on how far you have left to go — celebrate how far you’ve come. The energy returns. • Lean on your team. Friends, family, colleagues, neighbors — no one achieves big goals alone. Asking for help takes strength, and the journey is better together. • Celebrate the milestones. Rest, reflect, recharge. At mile 20, I stopped at the base of the Golden Gate, ate a protein bar, and let the sun and wind refuel me for the miles ahead. I begin this new decade with gratitude — for life, for time, and for all of you who’ve shared love, support, and friendship along the way. Time is our most precious gift. Let’s spend it wisely and purposefully. Here’s to the miles — and memories — still to come.
