Cathy Robinson liked thisCathy Robinson liked thisI don't like the word manager. You manage a calendar. You manage a budget. You manage your time, your ice supply, your lawn. You manage things that aren't alive, or things that don't have a choice. People have a choice. If someone is only following you because their job title says they report to you, that's not leadership, that's just org chart compliance. Org chart compliance doesn't scale, doesn't inspire, and falls apart the second something gets hard. Leading means people want to go where you're going. It means following feels organic. You earn it by being someone worth following, not by having a bigger title or a door that closes. When I hear someone say they manage ten people, I always wonder what those ten people would say. Because if the word their boss uses to describe the relationship is manage, there's a decent chance the culture reflects that.

Cathy Robinson liked thisCathy Robinson liked thisOne of the most common misconceptions I see is that organizational alignment means everyone agrees. It doesn’t. In healthy organizations, people will have different perspectives, priorities, and opinions. In fact, I would be more concerned if they didn’t. Alignment happens when people understand the objective, understand their role in achieving it, and move in the same direction even when they disagree on the details. Many organizations spend countless hours debating solutions while never fully agreeing on the problem they are trying to solve. When that happens, teams become reactive. Effort increases. Progress slows. The strongest teams I’ve worked with weren’t always the teams with the smartest people. They were the teams that shared a common understanding of the goal and were willing to row in the same direction. Alignment isn’t about eliminating disagreement. It’s about creating clarity and intentionality.

In the days after the Parkland shooting, I had a choice: collapse under the weight of grief — or fight like hell so no other parent would have to feel what I felt. I chose to fight. I founded Make Our Schools Safe. I ran for Broward County School Board. I helped pass Alyssa's Law in 12 States like Florida, New Jersey, Texas, and New York — requiring silent panic alerts in schools so teachers can call for help instantly. I am not done. We’re looking for someone who is really strong with Snowflake administration and platform engineering — not just running queries, but building and supporting enterprise-scale Snowflake environments with security, automation, governance, CI/CD, and Azure integrations.
