This week’s been a rollercoaster for me; with some bumps and a big 'ol upside-down bit along the way! 🎢 But as many of you know, I’ve got a resilient spirit! I truly believe I’ll bounce back stronger and keep moving forward! I honestly feel this deep in my bones; and see this as a chance for some personal growth and new opportunities in my professional journey. If we haven’t had the chance to meet yet, let me introduce myself! I’m Ash — I’m pretty passionate and full of energy, which I love to bring into the workplace. I THRIVE in lively (and let’s be honest, sometimes chaotic) environments and enjoy juggling busy or tricky situations. On top of that, I’ve got a creative streak that I like to share through humor and lightheartedness. People often ask me, “How do you stay so positive and energized?” I think it all comes from a deep sense of resilience and a motivation to lift up those around me, especially when times are tough. Callie B. reposted thisCallie B. reposted thisI'm very sorry to announce that I was one of the devs affected by the Obsidian layoffs today. Being able to write for the studio whose work pulled me out of a dark place with my writing and reminded me of why I loved it was a beautiful dream. It took me places I'd never imagined, and some I had, in the small, ambitious way a child watches credits roll and swears to someday be up there. It challenged how I approached my writing. It introduced me to colleagues so skilled, it was an honor to run to catch up to them. It changed how I saw myself. I walked through life with my head higher. I told people in places as far-flung as Finland and Greece that I was an Obsidian writer and glowed when it meant something to them. I felt proud that I could make a living doing what I loved, a privilege, like seeing Earth from the cold solitude of the Moon, afforded - even briefly - to so few. To my friends at Obsidian, current and former (and yes, I do consider you friends): This isn't goodbye. It's "see you later." The game writing world is small, and I'm a cockroach. Consider yourselves warned that it will take a lot more than a layoff to get rid of me permanently. I look forward to staying in touch, and if Obsidian ever has a project in need of another writer, I'll jump out of a plane for you. To everyone else: If you need a writer with experience in everything from the fog of war to romance - especially if you're open to remote - please reach out. I've been in the industry since 2017, and I come with an extensive study of character art and costume design on top of linear and branching narrative. The industry is bleak right now, and many of the best among us are out of work, but if that sounds interesting, let's talk. I'd love to help you make something great.

This industry can be terrifying and, at times, incredibly toxic. There are moments when I question whether I'm strong enough to be here. Then I think back to my first team: the engineers, producers, and the few truly great leaders I had the privilege of learning from. They remind me why I stayed. Days like today are hard. Hearing about layoffs at massive companies affecting thousands of people is heartbreaking, and it hits even harder when the smaller studios and companies filled with so many of my friends are also being impacted, often without the same visibility. To everyone I've met along the way, please know I'm here for you. Whether you need a referral, a resume review, or just someone to listen, don't hesitate to reach out. I love you all. We'll get through this together. ❤️

Over the past 20 years, I’ve had the opportunity to work across some incredible studios, including EA Visceral, Sledgehammer games, Vicarious Visions/Activision and now id Software. During that time I’ve worn a lot of hats, including: Character artist - DOOM: The Dark Ages (id software) Weapons lead - Call of Duty (Sledgehammer games) Weapons and items lead - Diablo 2 resurrected (Vicarious Visions) Environment and prop artist - Dead Space and Modern Warfare 3 I’m primarily looking for lead artist or generalist opportunities, but I’m also very interested in Character, weapon or prop roles. If you know of a team that’s looking for someone with deep AAA production experience, I’d really appreciate any introductions or referrals. While this wasn't the way I expected my week to go, I'm walking away with so much gratitude for the experience, the challenges, and most importantly, the amazing people. At Wolfjaw, I had the privilege of serving as Production Lead while taking on Senior Producer responsibilities across multiple external teams. My favorite work? Untangling complex misalignments between technical teams and leadership, and building production frameworks that actually stick. I'm a real badass when it comes to complexity! Let me get my hands on it! Some highlights I'm proud of: ✨ Redesigning our production org to streamline partnership onboarding. ✨ Co-developing frameworks that aligned engineering, production, and leadership. ✨ Enabling our team to level up in executive reporting and strategic roadmapping. Destiny 2 was my very first title I worked on and had the chance to be around amazing developers who were passionate about such an expansive world. I will never forget Coffee and Codebreakers during the Black Armory release and seeing the community rally together to solve the fun and unique puzzles the team had put together. Or watching the Worlds First raid races late night at the office, wondering which team would be the winner. I hope the best for all of the Bungie team, still existing and now former. He was an non-emergent EMT, someone who spent his days helping others. On his way to work one day, a tractor-trailer struck his Honda Civic and fled the scene of the accident. The crash left Dylan with a C1 spinal cord injury, and now can only move his face and mouth. Before the accident, Dylan gamed with his friends. That connection, that shared world, was part of who he was. AbleGamers gave it back to him. Their team worked with Dylan one-on-one to find the right solution: a QuadStick (a controller you operate with your mouth) and a custom mounting kit. There was a learning curve. He pushed through it. Now Dylan plays Civilization and NBA 2K with the same friends he had before the crash. "By supporting this wonderful charity you are doing more than just giving people the ability to play games — you're improving quality of life." — Dylan W. 👉 We're sitting at $483 raised of our $1,200 goal. 👈 Soooo close to crossing $500. We are honored that LeMar chose to spend the last 18 years of his career here at Gen Con. Naturally, I commemorated it with my manager Cindy Berger and my manager's manager's manager's manager Luis von Ahn. And what's wild: before any of us joined (or founded) Duolingo, we were all #teachers in some way or another! And you never stop being a teacher, you just get new tools. The app has grown up alongside me. Five years ago we didn't have: • One guided path, so learners move through concepts in an order that builds, not at random. • Explain My Answer, so a wrong answer becomes a personalized explanation instead of just a red X. • Roleplay and Video Call, so you can practice a real conversation with an AI character calibrated to your level. I'm proud to have had a hand in all of these, and I've approached each as an educator first. And I'm not alone! Duolingo was founded by educators and is still fueled by them. And in true academic fashion, we publish our efficacy research openly, because "does Duolingo actually work" is a question worth answering. For example, in one peer-reviewed study, learners who finished our beginner English content scored above the level the course was built to reach (link in comments). Nice to see learning science at work!! Five years in, getting to build these as a teacher AND now a technologist and contributing to real, science-backed learning is what I'm proudest of. I absolutely loved exploring that world, and because of that, I started drawing Kacheeks, Aishas, and Xweetoks until I filled pages and pages. Looking back now, it feels unreal to realize that those doodles were the very first steps on my journey as an artist. Today, I'm incredibly excited to finally share that I had the opportunity to illustrate for the latest Neopets Battledome Trading Card Game expansion, Curse of Maraqua! 🐟 I had the privilege of illustrating 9 cards for this expansion, and it's hard to put into words how meaningful this project has been to me. I never imagined that one day I'd get to contribute artwork to a universe that played such a big role in my childhood. A huge thank you to Ricky L. for trusting me with this opportunity and for being such an incredible Art Director throughout the entire process. Your guidance, thoughtful feedback, and encouragement taught me so much, and I truly feel like I grew as an artist while working on this project. And a huge thank you to my dear friend Bree Horstkamp for encouraging me to go for this opportunity. Extra Life is a 24-hour gaming marathon that happens across the United States, whose goal is to raise money for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals across the US.
Currently we have raised $7,839.72 for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.
I am in charge of bringing together the clubs, gathering sponsors, running the social media (twitter, facebook, and instagram), keeping track of the funds we raised, acquiring prizes, creating flyers and tabling, negotiating grant proposals…Extra Life is a 24-hour gaming marathon that happens across the United States, whose goal is to raise money for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals across the US.
