Bulent Ince shared this• The C-37C is part of a program called the Common Small Executive Airlift Replacement Aircraft. • Keeping the same “C-37” mission designation strongly points to a similar Gulfstream aircraft — most likely the Gulfstream G700. • Requirements: Air Mobility Command requires the new aircraft to carry up to five crewmembers and 20 personnel on nonstop trips up to 7,500 miles across the globe — a notable range increase over the current fleet.

DeSantis signed SB 422, which prohibits airports from using ADS-B data to collect fees from aircraft owners. • The law covers fees for departures, landings (including touch-and-go operations), and for simply entering the airport’s defined airspace radius. • It applies to aircraft weighing 12,499 lbs or less operating under Part 91.

But I love aviation. It's a paradox. So aviation safety has always been an important topic to me. I was finishing up phase 1 of a years-long aviation safety data project when news broke of the terrible D.C. crash. So I prioritized getting this graphic out to show the context and nuances of commercial aviation's safety record. The US has not seen a major crash on our soil since 2009 (Colgan Air) and many lessons were learned from that crash (like the 1,500-hour rule). Overall, flying has never been safer. But a mid-air collision should never happen, so obviously there are still lessons to be learned. In this chart, I combine the Our World in Data fatal accidents per million commercial flights with a timeline of airplane safety milestones. Changes in policy, regulations and a crescendo of new technology means we are living in the safest era for travel by air. Unfortunately, most of these safety changes were the results of tragic accidents. Understanding what went wrong is the only way to improve. I hope someday this line chart will taper off to zero. Bulent Ince shared thisThis tragic accident once again highlights the dangers of night visual and circle to land clearances issued as “standard”, especially in complex airspaces such as DCA. They are usually issued to reduce the workload of the ATC controllers and place the traffic separation responsibility entirely to the pilots to "see-and-avoid" and maintain safe separation because of the Controller shortage and their horrible work schedules. Most experienced pilots know about the huge threat of maneuvering in a three dimensional environment with a night visual and circle to land clearance can be quite risky, especially in complex airspaces with numerous flashing lights. I have always viewed these types of clearances as dangerous and always rejected them. One thing I hope that comes out of this NTSB investigation and the final recommendation is that they will review these types of approach clearances.

Bulent Ince shared thisIMHO, magnetic navigation alone may not provide a complete solution for current GPS interference issues. Aircraft require PNT (Positioning, Navigation, and Timing) data, and focusing solely on navigation overlooks the need for precise timing and positioning. There is also the challenge posed by the movement of Earth’s magnetic north. The magnetic north pole’s rapid shift towards Siberia indeed complicates navigation, especially for aircraft. Switching between Magnetic to True navigation was always a concern for me when I used to fly polar flights near the Northern Territories (ACA/ NCA) and North Pole, especially if dealing with an emergency with very limited diversion airport availability. Bulent Ince shared thisLufthansa, Swissair, ANA and few others have been using this technology for a couple of years, so JAL is not the first to use it, but still great idea. BASF developed this biomimetic film with prism-shaped riblets, each one around 50 micrometers high mimicking the shark skin properties-hence the name AeroSHARK. These extreme pressure and temperature resistant riblets provide efficiency gains for aircraft (and the maritime industry) by reducing aerodynamic drag, increasing lift and resulting in less fuel burn, especially on long duration flights. BASF was successful in obtaining a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) from European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in 2022. Even though I haven’t seen a recent cost- benefit analysis yet, Lufthansa Technik estimated in late 2021 a drag reduction of more than one percent. For the entire fleet of ten LH Cargo aircraft, this translates to annual savings of around 3,700 tons (7,400,000 Lbs) of kerosene and just under 11,700 tons (23,400,000 Lbs) of CO2 emissions, equivalent of 48 individual freight flights from Frankfurt to Shanghai.Bulent Ince shared thisJAL to become first in the world to introduce "shark skin" Paint technology on Boeing 787-9 planes to reduce air resistance. Bulent Ince shared thisIt is heartbreaking that so many lives were lost today. Even though there are obvious signs of high velocity impact holes on the fuselage and the tail section, one thing that is clear at this time is that they were subjected to significant GPS interference. The aircraft departed Baku at 03:55 UTC. Valid ADS-B position data was received from the aircraft until 04:25 UTC when the flight encountered significant GPS interference. The aircraft stopped sending positional data altogether for the period between 04:25 and 04:37. Between 04:37 and 04:40 the aircraft sent likely erroneous position data. I just posted here yesterday about the dangers and risks of civilian aircraft flying in or near conflict areas that are heavily subjected to GPS Jamming and Spoofing. https://lnkd.in/gyQphAaH It will be interesting to read the final accident report and hopefully we will all start taking this threat seriously.Bulent Ince shared thisOn 25 December, Azerbaijan Airlines flight #J28243 crashed while attempting an emergency landing in Aktau, Kazakhstan. Bulent Ince shared thisI have been posting about the increasing level of GPS Interference and it’s potential negative effects to civilian Aviation for a few years now. The number of events have now reached new highs as many countries are Jamming and/or Spoofing and causing major disruptions to aircraft in/ around their FIR boundaries. The GPS equipment most commercial aircraft use today are not protected since the M code is not included to protect them from incoming fake signals. The fake GPS signals will be used by many critical aircraft components, such as: ▪ Flight Management Computer (FMC). ▪ ADS-B In and Out. ▪ Time/Clock: The clock is updated by the GPS and can be affected by displaying the wrong time during GPS interference. The incorrect time can show inaccurate fuel and ETA predictions and confuse/ distract pilots. ▪ EFB applications: The EFB own ship position and airport moving map can be incorrect during GPS interference. Additionally, the EFB may recover when the aircraft does not. ▪ EGPWS: EGPWS false terrain alerts have occurred; therefore, at captain’s discretion, a continuous EGPWS alert that is obviously invalid can be overridden by selecting TERR OVRD to OVRD. The decision to select TERR OVRD should consider in-flight conditions (e.g., day, night, VMC, IMC, visibility, etc.), aircraft cruise altitude, and climb/descent profile versus terrain. ▪ Weather radar I informed a few executives and managers (Honeywell, Collins, Boeing, United Airlines..) along with the media (Wall Street Journal, Air Traffic Technology..) during our interviews, but unfortunately no action has been taken so far to eliminate this potential safety threat by the regulators or the GPS manufacturers. A few points from Dana Goward’s post below to show the increased numbers. • Mar 2019 Non-profit (C4ADS) exposed Russian Spoofing in Europe with over 10,000 events detected at 10 locations between 2016 and early 2019. • From 8/15 to 9/15 2024: ~ 41,000 Boeing, Airbus and other aircraft flights assessed by ADS-B as impacted by collateral spoofing effects GNSS jamming and spoofing endangers everything from global navigation safety to civilian finance, logistics, and communication systems. Again, it is just a matter of time before a major accident happens, especially if the interference starts happening over oceanic airspace.

After three years of internal medicine residency, three years of cardiology fellowship, a year of critical care medicine training, and an additional year of interventional cardiology fellowship, I have officially reached the end of my formal training journey. For the first time in over a decade, there is no next fellowship, no next application cycle, and no next graduation. It is time to step into the next chapter as an attending physician in Critical Care and Interventional Cardiology. For anyone who has chosen a long training pathway, you know that the journey is about much more than accumulating years. It is a chapter filled with sleepless nights, long calls, difficult decisions, and moments that stay with you forever. It means celebrating patients' recoveries and grieving alongside families when outcomes are not what we hoped. It means navigating exhaustion, self-doubt, criticism, and imposter syndrome. It means missing holidays, birthdays, weddings, and countless moments with family and friends. Yet those same years are also filled with extraordinary gifts. Training introduced me to some of the most meaningful friendships of my life—friendships that became family. It allowed me to learn from remarkable educators and physicians who shaped not only how I practice medicine, but who I aspire to be. It introduced me to mentors who demonstrated the true meaning of mentorship and whose influence will stay with me throughout my career. Most importantly, it allowed me to become a small part of the stories of countless patients and families who entrusted us with their care. For me, the last four years of training were also a period of discovery. I found passions beyond direct patient care and discovered ways I could contribute to my field through education, community building, and advocacy. During that time, I began asking questions about the status quo and learned an important lesson: being a trainee does not mean you have to wait to make a difference. ...... ........... The next generation of medicine will be shaped by the questions trainees are willing to ask today. So to all current and incoming trainees: stay curious. Challenge assumptions. Pursue ideas that excite you. Trust that your voice matters, even when you are still learning. Goward, FRIN, and to other clues we heard through Ramsey Faragher, my student Zach Clements and I have been on a hunt to identify the source of intense continental-scope bursts of GPS interference afflicting Europe for the past 6.5 years. Thanks to Zach's (now Dr. Clements's!) hard work, and to a lucky break (hat tip to Aiden Morrison for those wideband RF captures!) we finally cracked the puzzle. With a nose for interesting high-impact problems and a willingness to put in the time required to get things right, Zach has definitely moved the needle in our field. He got the IEEE Walter Fried Best Paper Award at IEEE/ION PLANS in 2023 for his work in emitter geolocation from space. https://lnkd.in/gjhWigYZ He followed this with a paper showing how spoofers can be located by a single satellite in low-Earth orbit. https://lnkd.in/g965rYzq His most recent paper, to be posted soon, solves a mystery we've been trying to crack for over a year: What satellite -- or satellites -- have been blasting Europe with short-burst interference in the GPS L1 band every few months since 2019? Update: Honored to be asked to return and assist as a Sabre SME for the Airbus pilots as well in April and May of 2013 during and after their fleet's turned on to the Sabre system.

Istanbul- Turkey new station start up and Inaugural flights

Represented United Airlines Flight Operations and supported other departments for the start up of a brand new station in Istanbul-Turkey.
Assisted in setting up a flight planning area, required equipment, support staff, obtaining gates, ticket office and check-in counters and many other issues for the world's largest airline starting a quality operation.
We finished our part of the start-up project 1 month ahead of schedule.
I also flew both inaugural flights between…Represented United Airlines Flight Operations and supported other departments for the start up of a brand new station in Istanbul-Turkey.
Assisted in setting up a flight planning area, required equipment, support staff, obtaining gates, ticket office and check-in counters and many other issues for the world's largest airline starting a quality operation.
We finished our part of the start-up project 1 month ahead of schedule.
I also flew both inaugural flights between Istanbul and Newark and received wide spread news coverage.
This flight has been a huge success and the flights have been almost completely full from day 1. -
