Started with Regulation and Taxation since the exam will get updated on July 1st and my tax class was last Fall semester. Now studying for the Audit and Attestation exam scheduled in three weeks, and it feels so much more familiar after my Audit class this past Spring and my audit work at my internship. Wish me luck 🤞 in getting questions I'm most comfortable with! I was thankful to get book to tax reconciliations on the REG exam which after Nathan Goldman covered in great detail I could easily calculate 🙏

I had to remind my kiddo today: “It’s okay not to know something.” In fact, given all the possible knowable things in the universe, each of us will only ever know a relatively small fraction of those things. Even within software, there’s a vast micro-universe of detail that no single person could ever fully know—let alone master. When we practice humility in our knowledge—by asking curious questions and being okay with not knowing—we not only unlock our own growth, but also the growth of our entire team.

Update: the slop fraudster was escorted out by police after refusing to leave despite having been called out for violating policy, and the vacated stand turned into an impromptu shrine to “AI” resistance. Apparently this is a commonplace scene across conventions, and the seller in question is a repeat offender.

Good QA engineers are harder to replace by AI than average developers. Not because they write better tests. But because they think in failure modes, not implementations. AI is great at producing code. It’s much worse at deciding what should not be allowed to break. QA is not something you can copy from Stack Overflow. You can copy a function. You can’t copy judgment built from watching systems fail in production. This is why people with a QA background are great sparring partners for PRDs and ADRs. They ask: * what happens if this assumption is wrong? * how does this fail in the real world? * which edge case will page us at 03:00? Average development work benefits massively from AI scaffolding and autocomplete. Good QA work doesn’t. In AI-first teams, QA stops being “test execution” and becomes systemic skepticism. And that’s a very human skill.
