Over the past few months, I’ve spoken with 100+ Salesforce customers and partners, and 90% of them are actively clamoring for change Salesforce was once the scrappy disruptor that killed Siebel Today, it has become the very thing it set out to replace—bloated, slow, and dependent on armies of consultants The user experience is clunky Reps log in only because managers force them to Data sits siloed even inside Salesforce’s own clouds, and adoption is more about compliance than empowerment Implementations are a nightmare Rolling out Salesforce takes 6–18 months with Deloitte or Accenture parachuting in battalions of consultants Every customer ends up with a Frankenstein system of Apex code, plug-ins, and middleware Most enterprises need a full admin team just to keep the lights on Pricing is a minefield Endless SKUs, opaque licensing, and constant upsells make budgeting a nightmare The total cost of ownership balloons far beyond licenses—consultants and admins drive costs into the stratosphere On the innovation front, Salesforce has slowed Most “new features” are acquired—ExactTarget, MuleSoft, Tableau, Slack—stitched onto legacy architecture Einstein launched in 2016, rebranded as Agentforce, but AI capabilities remain surface-level Customer support has declined sharply Thousands of staff cut Partners complain about shrinking support and higher rent extraction through AppExchange Consultants ironically benefit the more complex it is Salesforce is seen as the enterprise dinosaur—expensive, heavy, out of reach for SMBs Also strategically, Salesforce looks vulnerable It runs a human-heavy, high-CAC sales motion while newer players scale with product-led growth Salesforce’s only real moat is inertia Customers stay because they’ve already sunk millions into it But that’s exactly the story with Siebel in 2002 And we all know how that ended It feels like Salesforce is the dinosaur and the meteor of AI is already on its way to wipe it out
