Not because AI doesn't work for investor relations. But because hallucinations aren't acceptable and accuracy is a regulatory issue. What IR Teams Are Learning The first wave of AI in investor relations followed a predictable path: buy seats, expect productivity gains on earnings prep and, watch adoption crater after the first fabricated financial metric. These tools promise everything: draft earnings scripts, summarize analyst calls, but they lack the precision IR professionals stake their credibility on. When an generic API powered - AI assistant confidently cites revenue figures that don't exist or misrepresents guidance from last quarter, the cost isn't just embarrassing. It's career-ending. The math stops making sense when you're paying per-seat for tools that IR teams are afraid to use without exhaustive fact-checking that eliminates any time savings. The same goes for web-site providers turned IR consultants that repackage LLM tools and charge premiums, with similar results. The Shift Underway Forward-thinking IR departments are pivoting from AI tools to IR-native AI agents. Custom agents ( REAP ) designed for specific IR workflows rather than general-purpose assistants that don't understand the difference between GAAP and non-GAAP metrics. Well-designed agents that pull verified data, cross-references historical filings, and generate drafts grounded in actual disclosures deliver more value than a hundred Copilot licenses gathering dust. These true agentic agents integrate directly with SEC filings, earnings transcripts, and financial statements. They understand materiality thresholds, disclosure requirements, and company-specific reporting standards. Most importantly, they're built with verification layers that prevent hallucinations because in IR, accuracy isn't negotiable.
