Take a look 👇 What would you tell today's 14-year-olds? Don’t worry so much about what others think of you. Then and now! Although I feel 14 years old today have it much harder with social media compared to when I was 14. I’m grateful that my teenage years were unplugged. My biggest mistake? I view my choices and experiences as opportunities to learn and grow. Viewing them as mistakes only opens the door to dwelling on something you likely can’t change. So instead of looking back, I choose to look forward about how I might do things different the next time. It’s a mindset not a label. Soft skills or hard skills? Soft skills hands down. What do you look for in a top hire? Curiosity, be open to all perspectives and possibilities, comfort with failure paired with learning agility, ability to navigate through ambiguity. Top skill for future leaders? Agility, EQ, change leadership. What would your answers be? Therefore, I think it is useful to callout things that truly rise to the level of being transformational. I was fortunate to recently complete the UC Berkeley Transformative CHRO Leadership Program. UC Berkeley Executive Education. I can confidently say that this program met the standards of being transformative, and when I reflect on my experience, I know that I have been personally transformed from this program. I will never view HR or the CHRO role the same as I did previously, nor will I lead the same as I did previously. And maybe the most important thing to take from an executive education program…my career will take an entirely new path and trajectory by virtue of my experience in this program. Thank you to the incredible team at Berkeley Executive Education that put this program together. For anyone looking to invest in themselves or their team, and prepare for leading HR into the AI powered age, I don't believe you could find a better program. Douglas Blum, M.A. reacted on thisDouglas Blum, M.A. reacted on thisLast week I had the absolute privilege of representing EY and NABA Charlotte NC Chapter at another NABA National Convention in Las Vegas, and it was an energizing, inspiring experience from start to finish. Year over year, I leave this convention even more encouraged by the ambition of the students and professionals I meet, the caliber of conversations, and the generosity of the leaders and speakers who transparently share their journeys and hard-earned lessons. This experience reaffirmed something I continue to believe deeply: while no two journeys look the same, there is tremendous power in investing in yourself and in others along the way. As always, the speaker lineup was exceptional, and every session offered something meaningful. A few messages that stayed with me: 1. “You either win or you learn.” – Tara Davis-Woodhall; a reminder to reframe setbacks as opportunities for growth 2. “Someone’s version of me doesn’t define me.” – Bozoma Saint John; a powerful call to lead with confidence and stay grounded in your own purpose 3. “Hell is when on your last day on earth the person you are meets the person you could have become.” – Men of NABA; a challenge to live boldly and pursue your full potential Beyond the sessions, I am especially grateful for the time spent with my incredible community. Thank you to all of my colleagues and dear friends for pouring into me in ways I absolutely needed and for making this experience so memorable. A huge shout‑out to Matthew Seto, CPA, Jacob Dodson, CPA, and Jessica Wright, CPA 👏 for serving as panelists during our second Direct Admit Day, welcoming prospective Indiana University - Kelley School of Business students and their families. We connected with Women in Accounting and Women in Business at Indiana University 💬 to discuss building trust and communication styles, and partnered with Beta Alpha Psi at Indiana University-Bloomington and IU Student Accounting Society 🤝 to explore 360Careers at EY, as well as VR headsets to see our offices close up! We also hosted two activations highlighting the Elements of Consulting and Shaping Possibilities ✨ For the first time this spring, EY proudly sponsored the inaugural Prompt‑a‑thon 🤖💡, where students used generative AI and prompt engineering to tackle real‑world business challenges. We wrapped up the semester with our Offer Celebration 🎉 at Indiana University Memorial Stadium, home of the reigning National Football Champions 🏟️ — celebrating our incoming interns and staff as they take this exciting next step. I’m also incredibly grateful to the friends, mentors, and IU peers - both older and younger - who have shaped my experience and from whom I continue to learn every day. - Meeting with senior department head and other appropriate personnel to identify talent management and organizational development issues.
