Publications also rarely report high-price sales closed on terms, because technically the sale isn’t complete until the final payment clears and the name transfers to the buyer’s account. 𝗠𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱: 𝗢𝗳 𝗺𝘆 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗶𝘅 $𝟭𝗠+ 𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀, 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘀. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝘁𝘆𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 (𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝘆 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲): Buyer makes a significant down payment, then pays monthly for 1–5 years. Payments can be evenly amortized, start lower and step up (every 6–12 months), or remain low with a balloon at the end. Ultimately, it depends on the seller’s willingness to accept time-based payments. 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀: Buyer risk: Miss a payment and you can lose use of the domain and forfeit all prior payments; unlike repossessing a car, a seller can simply change nameservers. Seller risk: Brand damage if the buyer publishes controversial or illegal content; the domain could be associated with that content long-term and future resale value may suffer. My 1,200+ personal inventory is listed at Afternic - a GoDaddy brand (and some at Atom.com and Spaceship), but I do not offer LTO there—personal choice. For brokered and owned high-ticket names, I’m a big fan of terms deals; not every buyer is a Fortune 500 that can write a 7–8 figure check. If a major political party or national media outlet doesn’t step up, I believe entrepreneurs with vision can still unlock the extraordinary credibility, authority, and global resonance of this brand. I’ve even enlisted ChatGPT to model creative 3–5 year payment schedules—the options are attractive and broaden the potential buyer pool. For most of the 100+ major names we broker, my clients will consider terms with the right down payment. Hello, Proptech is a $30B+ industry. Apps, 3D tours, e-signatures. The Proptech Paradox Front-end: Modern, slick, fast. Back-end: Same power structure. Same commissions. Same opacity. Listing sites sell leads to agents. Transaction platforms keep legacy commission models. "Instant offers" hide valuation behind tech jargon. Result: Prettier screens. Not fairer deals. What's Missing Consumer control. Trust. Transparency. Fintech disrupted banking by giving consumers direct access to verified data, clear pricing, and simplified processes. Proptech? Data is still fragmented. Locked behind MLS gates, paywalls. Consumers can't see comparables, costs, or trends that professionals use. Why Disruption Stops Rebuilding real estate = hard. Every step has gatekeepers and commissions. Valuation. Listing. Marketing. Negotiation. Escrow. Closing. Startups choose "optimising old model" over dismantling. Safer for investors. Familiar with the industry. But efficiency without empowerment ≠ innovation. That's just faster friction. The Next Wave Trust > fancy interfaces. Winners = companies making the process understandable, auditable, and honest. Verified data. Transparent pricing. Open communication. Tech that simplifies, not obscures.
