Ariel Young shared thisI want to thank Ramapo College of New Jersey and the Student Government Association for recognizing Women in Business as the “New Club/Organization of the Year for 2022”. It has been a privilege to serve as the club’s Founder and President and I want to thank my fellow founding officers for all of their hard work and dedication. I also want to thank our members for continuously participating, helping us grow and always challenging us to do more. I founded WIB with the sole purpose of empowering women in the business world. We wanted to establish a network that provides information, mentorship opportunities, hosts social events, and fosters collaboration and relationships that will help women kickstart their careers and hopefully land their dream jobs after college and beyond. Thank you to everyone that has been a part of this journey and helped make us successful! This is a tremendous honor and accomplishment and I cannot wait to see what’s next for our newest officers taking over and continuing to lead the way into the future.

Hot take: Most SDRs don’t have an activity problem. They have a courage problem. The other day I told a prospect, “It kind of feels like I’m just pissing in the wind here.” He paused. Then laughed. Did it book a meeting? No. But it closed the loop. It created a real human moment. And it turned a cold call into an actual conversation. Here’s what I’m noticing: As AI gets better, a lot of SDRs are getting worse. We’re sounding scripted, over-personalized, hyper-automated, perfectly structured and completely forgettable I might add. AI is supposed to make us more efficient, not turn us into robots. The irony? We’ll spend 10 minutes yelling “REPRESENTATIVE!” at an automated phone system… Then go send a robotic AI-generated email. AI should handle: – Research – Notes – Admin – Follow-ups It shouldn’t replace: – Courage – Humor – Personality – Real-time thinking Activity matters. But courage + humanity is what actually cuts through. Curious — Are we using AI to sharpen our edge… Or to hide behind it? 👇 SDRs — has AI made you better… or safer?

Listening back to some cold calls last night in the library. One thing I've noticed and learned overtime is to almost never take the first objections / brush-offs seriously. Here's a few examples of things people have said in the first 10 seconds to first minute. 1. SDR - do you have a quick moment? Prospect - No I actually don't SDR - Better time to call back today? Prospect No. I'm really busy the rest of the day. SDR - no worries I'll tell you the reason for my call quick That went on to be a 10 minute call and meeting booked. Simply because the sdr (Sarah Cryan) pushed on. 2. "I'm familiar with Common Room but it's not a great fit for us. We're looking at other vendors that fit better. I don't want to waste your guys' time" After they said this I immediately just asked a few questions, ultimately uncovering some gaps. Then explained how Common Room IS the right fit for what gaps they have. That one ended going on for 10 minutes as well, meeting booked. And on the intro call they said "there's no way we wouldn't evaluate this alongside the other vendors" There's plenty more examples I can share but you get the picture. Our job as SDRs is to listen to their tone and understand if they're actually busy and have to go or it's just a brush-off (IMO most of the time it's the latter). Of course you have to be careful and not burn bridges. So here's a few rules I try to follow 1. don't take that first no at face value 2. Tone > words. Listening to HOW they say things vs WHAT they say Cause after seeing so many calls that start with a brush off that leads to a meeting booked is wild. We'd miss out on so much pipeline if we just agreed with them and hung up. ps. I'm one of the final 8 contestants in the LI chess tournament. Stay tuned for the winner.
