Andrew Barrett shared thisEarlier in the year I wanted to test my skills in Predictive Analytics. I found a great use case (Fantasy Football) and I started on this project. Using Python, SQL, and Power BI, I was able to extract and transform decades of NFL Player data, and use Machine Learning libraries to perform Logistic Regression Analysis. The model was imperfect (its not built to predict injuries), but has overall performed strongly. Lately, I’ve been thinking about how much my perspective on data has evolved. When I first started out as a Power BI Developer, I used to get excited by building “cool” dashboards — lots of colors, charts, and filters. But over time, I realized: the real value isn’t in how fancy it looks — it’s in whether it helps someone make a better decision. Now, when I design a report or architect a data model, I ask myself: “Will someone actually use this?” “Does it answer the questions they really care about?” These days, the most satisfying part of my job is seeing non-technical users make confident decisions based on insights they pulled themselves. That’s when I know I’ve done it right. It’s not always glamorous — there’s a lot of behind-the-scenes work: messy data, slow queries, changing requirements. But when it all comes together, and the data starts telling a clear story… it’s worth it.
