I keep hearing the same sentence lately: “My role doesn’t feel safe anymore.” It comes up in different rooms, different voices. A mid-career manager wondering if her role will still exist next year. A senior leader quietly calculating how long their savings would last. Someone in transition saying, “I’ll figure it out” without sounding convinced. On the surface, it sounds like anxiety about jobs. Sit with it a little longer, and something else appears. What’s being shaken isn’t just employment. It’s identity. For years, work quietly answered questions it was never meant to. Am I doing okay in life? Am I still relevant? Am I moving forward… or falling behind? So when a role feels uncertain, it’s not just income that feels at risk. It’s the familiar mirror people use to understand who they are. That’s why financial planning feels so heavy right now. It’s hard to plan when the version of you you’re planning for feels unstable. Career transitions make this unavoidable. Old labels drop off. New ones haven’t arrived yet. And money becomes the container for all that in-between uncertainty. We tend to treat money like a math problem. But for most people, it isn’t. It’s a safety problem. A worth problem. An identity problem. Maybe what we need right now isn’t better financial advice. Maybe we need to normalize talking about money: early, honestly, without shame as a shared human anxiety, not a personal failure. Because when money is allowed to be spoken about, it doesn’t have to carry so much of who we are.

Hot take (from a Workday recruiter who sees this daily): If a candidate says they “know all of Workday”…they probably don’t know it that well at all. Workday isn’t built for superheroes. It’s built for specialists who know their specialism and collaborate hard outside it. What actually impresses me: 🚀 Deep expertise in core modules, not surface knowledge of 10 💥Tangible impact after go-live (not just “I was on the project”) 🧠The maturity to say: “I don’t know — but I’ll find out” 🙌 Evidence they’ve worked with other Workday specialists Workday is massive. The ecosystem is complex. Pretending otherwise helps no one, especially hiring managers. The strongest Workday teams I see aren’t stacked with generalists. They’re built on depth and specialism, factors to consider when funding your post-production team in a difficult economy because this costs more.
