Alex Petroff shared thisWe're hiring a VP of Operations at Ridwell and I'd love your help getting this in front of the right people. After nearly five years, I'm still so grateful to be here. Great team, a mission with real impact, and a lot of exciting work ahead. Link below!Alex Petroff shared this🚀 We've reached an exciting inflection point at Ridwell Our members have already diverted more than 43 million pounds from the landfill. What started as a father-son project in our garage has grown into a nationwide community of members who care deeply about reducing waste. The next chapter is about building the operational foundation to multiply that impact by at least 10x. We’re looking for an exceptional leader to join our executive team and lead Operations from our Seattle headquarters. This role oversees the people and systems that turn what would have been waste into real environmental impact—while helping us scale to serve many more communities in the years ahead with a customer base grateful for what we all do every day. Seattle-based. Executive team role. No agencies, please.

It was so fun to see which town each bag was coming from, including many from the foothills and rural areas of Colorado and surrounding states. I saw: Santa Fe, NM Wichita, KS Bozeman, MT Durango, CO West Jordan, UT and my favorite Truth or Consequences, NM Also had a good showing from right past our Denver service area, including Castle Rock, Evergreen, and Fort Collins. 🫶 Do you live ~anywhere~ and want to recycle more and send less to landfills? Alex Petroff reacted on thisAlex Petroff reacted on thisSome news: after 5 years at Ridwell, I've moved into an advisor role. 5 years ago I posted here that I was starting a new career chapter dedicated to climate and the planet. What I didn't share at the time was that I wasn't sure I could work for someone else again after so many years of being a founder. Ryan and Aliya took a chance on me as their first exec hire after the Series A. To my delight, they basically let me keep doing founder-y things. Building a department from zero. Innovating programs like multi-layer plastic recycling and reinventing clothing collection. Being a thought partner to them as we grew. Turns out that founders sometimes need to think out loud while an idea is still half-formed, before it lands on the board deck or at the exec offsite. Being a person they could do that with became some of the most meaningful work I've done. I've been part of four startups now, two of my own. This one stretched me in ways I didn’t expect. I'd start a day digging through hundreds of pounds of used clothes in our warehouse and end it trying to convince a recycling operator to accept old pickleballs. Once, we set up a styrofoam recycling partnership with an operator who wouldn’t accept payment. But mooncakes? Mooncakes worked. 🥮 Millions of pounds of material went somewhere better than a landfill. Also, I have personally watched your lonely socks become punching bag stuffing. Still weird. Still amazing. I'm not really leaving. I'll keep thinking about recycling from a different seat, and the rest of my calendar belongs to two young stakeholders who still need help reaching the cereal box. To Ryan Metzger, Aliya Marder, and Team Ridwell - thank you for the best job I've ever had. Textiles and plastics are still very unsolved problems and I haven't stopped thinking about them. I’m not looking for a new role, but if you're building something, or you're a founder chewing on some half-formed idea, I'm always up for thinking out loud. ♻️

The response in Sonoma has been incredible. Just two weeks in, we’ve already welcomed more than 700 new doorstep members. Opening new locations has always been one of my greatest passions. There’s something incredibly rewarding about watching a brand grow while creating new opportunities for the people who have helped make that growth possible. I’m grateful to be part of this journey and excited to see what’s next!

Alex Petroff reacted on thisAlex Petroff reacted on thisFriends and colleagues, I’ve retired! I was blessed, 35 years ago, to start my career at Frank, Rimerman, a firm I never managed to outgrow. I’ve always advised young professionals to choose their employer based on the opportunities for growth and learning and the rest will come. I never ran out of new opportunities at Frank, Rimerman. And I’m so proud of how Frank, Rimerman continues to thrive under the next generation of leadership. There are far too many individuals to thank without accidentally omitting someone. There are hundreds who have taught me, challenged me, been patient with me, inspired me, supported me and picked me up when I needed help. Thank you to all of my Frank, Rimerman colleagues, past and present. I'm filled with gratitude for the community we created together every day. Thank you to all the clients I had the privilege to serve. And thank you to all the other outstanding professionals I’ve learned from over the decades. I’d also like to acknowledge that the Firm was always supportive of another source of learning and growth in my career, which has been my time on the board of Baker Tilly International. I will see my final term on that board through to its conclusion this October. I look forward to enjoying a slower pace with my family over the coming year while I reflect on where I’d like to have an impact in the next decade.

Alex Petroff liked thisAlex Petroff liked thisMeat and Money. It's an obscure niche. There aren't many people qualified to give you both financial advice and meat advice, but I'm one of them.* I spent 3 years selling, marketing, preparing, and eating craft meats at Crowd Cow. Several years later, here I am, a financial advisor. So when I tell you about what I found at the grocery store last weekend, trust me on this one. Whole picanha. 3.81 lbs of it. Certified Angus Beef. Marked down to $7.79/lb. If you've never had picanha — it's the cut Brazilian steakhouses built their entire reputation on. The sirloin cap. In the US you almost never see it sold whole; most grocers commit sacrilege and remove the fat cap, then break it down into sirloin steaks before it ever reaches the case. Finding it intact is rare. Finding it intact at $7.79/lb is the kind of thing that makes me text people like Elizabeth Liu. Now let's run the numbers, because that's the other half of my brain: Beefpricetracker.org says that the nationwide avg price for ground beef is $6.75 (as of 6/15/26), but speaking from experience, it runs more like $8- $10 in Greater Seattle. We’re talking about premium steak for ground beef prices! ⚬ The regular shelf price where I was shopping was $13.99/lb – a 44% markdown! ⚬ Several specialty online retailers sell 2-to-4 pound picanha roasts for $70 or more ⚬ $29.68 for this roast portioned out to ~$5/steak. The same cut at a restaurant is probably going for $50-60 for 8 ounces. ⚬ In other words: I was getting a $50 steak for the price of a latte. But what’s equally important is how I cooked it 👇 Just as there is no one-size fits all financial plan, there is no one size fits all recipe for a piece of meat. Both are a function of your personal circumstances. What you have in your account (or kitchen), the tools at your disposal, personal tastes, etc. I was fortunate last weekend, because I was at my in-laws’ place on Hood Canal, where my favorite grill happens to be: an Engelbrecht Braten 1000. Why it's my favorite is a separate post, but what’s important is the Santa Maria grill functionality. The execution was simple: ▸The Prep: Score the fat cap and apply a straightforward rub of things on hand: salt, pepper, garlic, onion powder, and a touch of cayenne. Let it rest for 3 hours to hit room temp. ▸The Fuel: Cooked exclusively over wood—applewood was on hand, which suited me just fine. ▸The Strategy: Cooked high above the fire for about 40 minutes to bring the entire roast up to temperature evenly, flipping it but keeping it fat-side down a 2:1 ratio over fat-side up. ▸The Finish: Once the center hit 120°, I dropped the grate right down to the coals for a 2-minute-per-side sear. The result? An incredible return on investment. If you want more meat-and-money content, drop a like or let me know in the comments. I have another one ready to go if this hits the mark. *not actually financial advice; content is for informational and entertainment purposes only

Alex Petroff liked thisI was so lucky to join the Pila team in a consulting capacity for a few months this spring as they sprinted toward this milestone, and it’s incredibly exciting that the first batteries have landed in customers’ homes. Huge congrats to the whole team and it’s such a treat to be cheering them on from the sidelines! 🚀Alex Petroff liked thisOne of the best parts of working at a hardware company is getting to see products make their way from the warehouse to customers' homes. We spent a day delivering Pila batteries to customers around the Bay Area and getting a closer look at the homes and people we're building for. It's easy to spend your days focused on production schedules, shipping timelines, and product development. Days like this are a good reminder of why all that work matters. Thanks to the TELO Trucks team for letting us do the deliveries in their electric truck and for joining us along the way.⚡🔋🚚 Check out the video below for a behind-the-scenes look at the day 👇 https://lnkd.in/gnD5rC6M

Alex Petroff liked thisAlex Petroff liked thisConfession: I was a skeptic but after visiting Ridwell's collection center in the East Bay, I am now a big fan and a proud subscriber for more than 2 years! If you aren't familiar with them, Ridwell is tackling one of the most frustrating bottlenecks in the circular economy: finding genuine, transparent end markets for hard-to-recycle items that our municipal blue bins simply won't accept. As a working mom who cares about sustainability, I want to reduce my household waste, but finding the time to drive to different specialized drop-off locations just isn't realistic. Ridwell changed the game for me by picking up directly from my doorstep every two weeks. What I love most, though, are their rotating "Featured categories." It allows me to pick and spend dedicated time clearing out one specific category of things from my home (ex. small shampoo bottles for homeless shelters, pet supplies for pet shelters, etc), giving me total peace of mind knowing those items will actually be reused or recycled properly instead of ending up in a landfill. Seeing their East Bay operations firsthand, I was impressed by the dedication of the staff, the granular sorting, and the efforts they have put in to partner with local nonprofits and off takers. They aren't just moving waste around; they are actively building a localized, transparent circular supply chain. I really can't say enough good things about what this team is building! #CircularEconomy #WasteReduction #Sustainability #WorkingMoms #ClimateTech #Ridwell

The larger the accounting firm, the fewer CPAs it has on staff, according to new data from INSIDE Public Accounting. As firms broaden their talent mix, CFOs may need to re-evaluate how they engage with providers and what credentials and capabilities they prioritize when buying services from public accounting firms. Research indicates that from 2020 to 2024, the average percentage of staff holding CPA licenses at said firms fell from 56% to 48.4%. At larger firms, just over four in 10 (41.5%) of staff held CPA licenses in 2024. https://lnkd.in/eshA2jnF

Many CPA firms lose time, margins, and sanity every tax season—not because of audits, but because bookkeeping reviews are skipped or misunderstood. 🚨 Bookkeeping review ≠ Audit One prevents problems. In many accounting firms, the people labeled “high performing” are often the ones carrying the heaviest invisible load. ADHD in the workplace rarely looks like chaos. More often, it shows up as last-minute urgency, uneven energy, and overcompensating to keep up. When that gets mistaken for “strong work ethic,” burnout isn’t far behind. In this conversation, Ace Cloud Hosting spoke with Sabrina Parris, CPA and leader at Honeycomb State Tax Strategies, about why #ADHD can be a hidden competitive advantage in CPA and CAS teams. She explains what ADHD really looks like day to day, why utilization and billable hours miss the full picture, and the systems that help diverse thinkers thrive, like clearer communication norms, flexible workflows, workstyle profiles, and protected focus time. If your firm is serious about retention, leadership development, and better performance, this one is worth reading. https://lnkd.in/eEhQ3hY8 What’s one change your team has made that improved focus and reduced burnout?

Do you question the necessity of a bookkeeper? 💹 Not really… if: - You enjoy surprise love letters from the IRS. - Uncertainty excites you about your monthly profitability. - You're fine with your CPA sorting through a year's worth of disarray at an extra cost. - Trusting your memory more than an organized accounting system is your thing. - You consider "Venmo + vibes" a viable financial strategy. However, if you prefer to: - Have clear insights into your cash flow. - Identify issues before they jeopardize your business. - Provide your CPA with well-maintained books. - Base decisions on concrete numbers, not instincts. - Operate a business with a professional approach... Then, yes — a bookkeeper is essential. 🧾 Because messy books = messy business. And you can’t grow what you can’t understand. Keep this in mind for those who claim: "Bookkeeping isn't crucial." Well, neither is the seriousness of your business. #Bookkeeper #BusinessTruths #FinancialReality #QuickBooksLife #Bookkeeping #Finswiftventures #bookkeepingwithFinswift #mentalpeace

That’s why many CPA firms are moving to usage-based, remote bookkeeping models. The right partner allows firms to increase capacity, protect margins, and stay focused on advisory work—without adding headcount. Scaling doesn’t require more employees. It requires better systems.

Here's what's coming: 🤖 AI agents replacing chatbots for complex workflows 📊 1:1 ratio of virtual agents to CPAs within 5 years 🔗 Tech stack consolidation from 15+ tools to integrated platforms ⚖️ New roles like "AI Compliance Officers" emerging The capacity crisis that's plagued accounting for years? AI is finally solving it. But here's the reality check: This transformation isn't happening TO the profession—it's happening WITH the firms that adapt now. The question isn't whether AI will change accounting. It's whether your firm will lead the change or get left behind. What's your biggest concern about AI transformation in accounting? 👇
